Homebrew Draconic Elf Species Details
Babe with the power
Draconic elven children show their penchant for magic even at a young age. Some would even say, especially at a young age. In the same way, toddlers have difficulty controlling their emotions, they also have difficulty controlling their innate magical powers. You can always recognize the house a draconic elf grew up in, as it is covered in scorch marks, acid burns, or other such forms of damage. The same goes for the parents or guardians of these children.
A small market has formed around creating anti-magic bracelets or necklaces, especially for draconic elven children, though these tend to be expensive and only available to the richer folk. The idea behind them is that the children can have a childhood free of harm until they are old enough to control themselves. However, this can backfire. Such items have been known to make learning to control their powers even harder in the future, as they are so foreign to them. In the end, it is a battle between safety now and safety in the future, and neither side is winning.
Reptilian Draconian
Draconic elves have a thin layer of nigh-translucent scales covering most of their torso and upper limbs. this gives their normal skin tone an interesting sheen. These scales are always the same color as their Dragonborn parents. However, they do not bear their strength. They are weak and offer no extra protection at all. In contrast, their longer, more pointed nails are incredibly strong, yet still not enough to pierce skin in any meaningful way.
On top of this all, draconic elven ears are also slightly different from normal elves. While they too are long and pointed, they tend to lay almost flat against the sides of the skull.
Draconic Elf Names
Draconic elves have two different names throughout their lifetime: their child and their adult name. The child's name usually expresses a wish their parents have for them or a tendency they see in them. They use this name until they think of themselves as an adult, however, friends or family members may use it as a nickname for far longer. Their adult name is androgynous and tends to be heavy in vowels. Whether they use a family name or a clan name depends on where they grew up.
