Homebrew Mothfolk Species Details

Buggy Biology

the mothfolk have a very different biology from most other humanoid races. while they about the same height as a human, they have a rather skinny build with an exoskeleton similar to an insect, and with bits of fluff around the neck. their wings sprout out from right behind their shoulders. they are almost never used, however as the wings are usually folded up as though a cloak around their entire body. their heads have large compound eyes and long, thin antenna. In terms of color, mothfolk have a variety of shades of white, black, green, brown, yellow, and sometimes a mix of the few.

Talented Artists

Mothfolk have a culture based on a variety of artforms, but one of the most common forms is glassblowing. Mothfolk structure will almost always include large stained-glass windows. ceremonial armor used for rituals or special occasions. these glass art pieces often depict stories and heroes and events from legends written long ago. while it is usually not very strong, the spellcasters of the colony may be able to enchant stained-glass armor, making full-glass armor incredible rare, yet possible to make. 

Collector's Pilgrimage

From time-to-time a mothfolk colony will send out 10 of their people to go on a 5-year pilgrimage across the world to bring back interesting bits of knowledge and trinkets to help the colony develop while still staying isolated from the outside world. the groups are sent out once every 5 years, and being selected as a wanderer is a great honor for the mothfolk as anyone who returns from their pilgrimage is treated to generous compensation for any contributions to the Great Tome, a book containing every bit of knowledge ever gathered from a pilgrimage along with all of the trinkets ever gathered in a large museum. this museum is a sort of holy place, with the museum keepers being treated as priests.

Mothfolk are skinny, yet flexible and creative. they have a variety of adaptations to help them complete their journeys and create their art.

Ability Score Increase

you have evolved in a way to help you in the creation of your art. Mothfolk are creative and very dexterous. your dexterity score is increased by 2 and your charisma score is increased by 1.

Age

Mothfolk live shorter than most humans, but mature faster than humans. Mothfolk live to the ages of 60-70 and become an adult at the age of ten. Legal drinking age is 14 so have fun.

Size

Mothfolk are tall and lanky, with heights ranging from 5'10" to 6'2" yet only weigh about 130 pounds. Your size is medium.

Speed

your walking speed is 30ft.

Gliding Wings

your wings can be spread out to allow you to glide for a long distance or keep then folded in to dive downward quickly. For each 5 ft you fall, you may 10 ft horizontally or vertically downwards.
