Homebrew Dragonborn (Fantastical Race) Species Details
Children of Dragons
Ancestors of humanoid and transformed dragon parents, Dragonborn look very much like dragons standing erect in humanoid form, complete with wings and a tail. Their small, fine scales possess vibrant hues reflecting their draconic ancestry, and generations of interbreeding have resulted in a truly stunning variety of colors and patterns. They are tall and strongly built, often standing close to 6½ feet tall and weighing 300 pounds or more. Their hands and feet bear strong, talonlike claws, and they have three fingers and a thumb on each hand.
Dragonborn (Fantastical Race) Traits
Your draconic heritage manifests in a variety of traits you share with other dragonborn.Ability Score Increase
When determining your character's ability scores, increase one score by 2 and increase a different score by 1, or increase three different scores by 1. Follow this rule regardless of the method you use to determine the scores, such as rolling or point buy. You can't raise any of your scores above 20.
Age
Young dragonborn grow quickly. They walk hours after hatching, attain the size and development of a 10-year-old human child by the age of 3, and reach adulthood by 15. They live to be around 80.
Size
Dragonborn are taller and heavier than humans, standing well over 6 feet tall and averaging almost 250 pounds. Your size is Medium.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Draconic Ancestry
Your draconic ancestry grants you an affinity for a certain element. Choose any single damage type other than Slashing, Piercing, or Bludgeoning. This is the damage type that you’re attuned to, and determines the damage type for your other traits.
Flight
Because of your wings and tail, you have a flying speed equal to your walking speed. You can't use this flying speed if you're wearing medium or heavy armor. Your tail is also necessary to remain balanced in flight, and as a result, you also can’t use your flying speed if your tail is paralyzed, amputated, or otherwise disabled.
Breath Weapon
When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can replace one of your attacks with an exhalation of magical energy. This energy can take the form of a 15-foot cone or a 30-foot long, 5-foot wide line: you pick one during character creation. Your draconic ancestry determines the damage type of the exhalation. When you use your breath weapon, each creature in the area of the exhalation must make a saving throw, the type of which is determined by your draconic ancestry. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 1d10 damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The damage increases to 2d10 at 6th level, 3d10 at 11th level, and 4d10 at 16th level. After you use your breath weapon, you can’t use it again until you complete a short or long rest.
Damage Resistance
You have resistance to the damage type associated with your draconic ancestry.
Talons
You have talons that you can use to make unarmed strikes. When you hit with them, the strike deals 1d6 + your Strength modifier slashing damage, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic. Draconic is thought to be one of the oldest languages and is often used in the study of magic. The language sounds harsh to most other creatures and includes numerous hard consonants and sibilants.
