Homebrew Changeling (Auf/Oaf) Species Details

Cecilie stepped into her baby's nursery, quietly singing to the baby she held in her arms. "Sleep well, my little Zuri." she whispered, carefully laying the baby in the crib with a kiss on the head. Cecilie smiled, quietly heading out of the room. Zuri never was a difficult baby, something the young mother was grateful for. She headed over to the fireplace, placing in a few logs before starting it. She moved to one of the chairs,  draping a blanket over her shoulders. Maybe she could get a bit of rest herself.

Cecile awoke to the sound of a window blowing open. She sat up, getting up off the chair she was sat in. How long was she out? The sun had rose into the sky, casting the home in a soft golden light. She quickly headed to her baby's room to check on her and ensure she was alright. To her surprise the baby was still asleep but something about her was... off. She looked paler than before and felt slightly chill to the touch. Cecile grabbed her child, cradling her in her arms. "Poor Zuri, must have come down with something. I'll have to go into town and get you medicine today."

It is rare for changelings to make it past the age of 7, but those that do grow up like most human children though it really depends on the family they are placed in. Only as they get older does their fey ancestry come into play as their abilities begin to develop. 

Fey in a Human World

To most people, Changelings look like a normal human. Their proportions are almost always slightly off whether that be a slightly larger head, slightly longer/shorter torsos, or slightly longer limbs as well as always being unusually pale and very thin.

Despite growing up among humans, most changelings prefer the company of animals and plants over human company and feel most at home outside and in the woods. 

 

Somewhat Sickly

Even though as they age it gets better, changelings always appear quite sickly whether that be by their paleness or how thin they are. They never look 100% healthy which can sometimes be concerning to those around them.

Changeling Names

Changelings always adopt the name of the human child they take the place of, meaning they have just as much of a variety for names as normal humans do.

Your intelligence score increases by 1 and your constitution score decreases by 2

Age

Changelings age similarly to humans though slightly slower and those that do make it to adulthood live just slightly shorter lives.

Changelings can vary from slightly shorter than 5 feet to around 5'9. Your size is Medium.

You can speak, read, and write Common and one extra language of your choice.

As a type of fey, you can speak with beasts and plants if you share a language.

As a changeling you can mimic the sounds of animals and with enough practice other voice.

As a changeling you age like a human though slightly slower and if you make it past childhood, changelings live just slightly shorter lives than humans.

Changelings are usually around 5 foot to 5'7. You're size is medium.

You're base walking speed is 20ft.

You can read, write, and speak Common along with one other language of your choice.

Mingle with Nature

As a type of fey, you can speak with beasts and plants if you share a language.

Mimicy

As a changeling, you can mimic the sound of different beasts/animals.

As a Changeling your intelligence is above average but you are much more sickly than a normal human.
