Homebrew Axelote Species Details

Axelotes are Axelotle based creatures who dwell in aquatic based environments. They have cylindrical bodies and have 4 fingers on each hand and five toes on each foot. They have a wide mouth but no teeth, resulting in them consuming food with a suction method rather then a chewing one. They have thin wide tails to assist them through the water.

Salt & Fresh Water Amphibians. Axelotes have adapted to live in both freshwater & saltwater environments. They tend to keep to colder temperatures as well as near land.

Colours & Patterns. Axelotes have a wide range of colours and patterns they may develop. Their colours and patterns generally tend to reflect the environment they were raised in, however, they can range from any colour or pattern and can change their colours to some extent.

Regenerative Nature. Axelotes possess the rare ability of being able to regenerate lost limbs and organs. Due to their incredibly high gene cell count, Axelotes can regenerate almost any part of their body given enough time. This includes fingers, toes, hands, feet, arms, legs, tail, gills, eyes, jaws, organs and even portions of their brains. Despite this ability however, they still suffer from these injuries and need to tend to them in order for them to heal. This come in quite handy as Axelotes also have fragile bodies, and the lose of extremities is quite common.

Endangered. Due to their regenerative nature, Axelotes were hunted down to be experimented on by other races, in order for them to learn how Axelotes regeneration worked and how to apply it to themselves. This resulted in Axelotes being almost completely wiped out. Due to this, sightings of them are rare, however, their numbers are growing due to less and less hunting of their species.

Livelyhood. Axelotes tend to live in small societies and keep to themselves. They are not overly trusting of other races and normally will just avoid them when possible. During mating, Axelotes lay between 4-8 eggs that hatch after about two weeks. For the first year of their lives, Axelotes are strictly bound to the water while there lungs develop properly. Axelotes tend to remain with their colonies, however, an Axelotle adventurer is not uncommon.

Slime Coat. Axelotes produce a slime like substance all over their bodies in order to keep their skin from drying out. While on land, an Axelote can find any means to keep it’s skin wet in order for their slime coat to remain in full effect, giving them the ability to remain on land for long durations.

Ageless. Due to Axelotes high gene cell count, once they reach adulthood, their bodies stop aging. This dose not make them immortal, as the still age like any other creature, however, an Axelote will look young and healthy all through its life, never showing wrinkles or blemishes or scars.
