Homebrew Divine Tiefling Species Details

Although Divine Teiflings are descendants of aasimar, their infernal appearance does not grant them the same positive attention from society. Because they still have teifling traits, they do not rise to the top of society as aasimar often do, but instead are greeted with stares and whispers and suffer violence and insult on the street just like normal teiflings.

Infernal Bloodline

Divine Tieflings are derived from human/aasimar bloodlines, and in the broadest possible sense, they still look like aasmimar. Some Divine Teiflings have a glowing aura and/or even a halo. However, their infernal heritage has left a clear imprint on their appearance. Many, although not all, divine tieflings have large horns that take any of a variety of shapes: some have curling horns like a ram, others have straight and tall horns like a gazelle’s, and some spiral upward like an antelopes’ horns. They have thick tails, four to five feet long, which lash or coil around their legs when they get upset or nervous. Their canine teeth are sharply pointed. Their skin tones cover the full range of human coloration, but also include various other colors.

Self-Reliant and Suspicious

Divine Tieflings subsist in small minorities found mostly in human cities or towns, often in the roughest quarters of those places, where they have to fight against the way of life often portrayed by people there to survive. Sometimes they live among other minority populations in enclaves where they are treated with more respect.

Lacking a homeland, divine tieflings know that they have to make their own way in the world and that they have to be strong to survive. They are not quick to trust anyone who claims to be a friend, but when a divine tiefling’s companions demonstrate that they trust him or her, the divine tiefling learns to extend the same trust to them. And once a divine tiefling gives someone loyalty, the divine tiefling is a firm friend or ally for life.

MET WITH MISTRUST

Ignorant people tend to be suspicious of divine tieflings, assuming that their infernal heritage has left its mark on their personality and morality, not just their appearance. The reality is that a the divine aspect of a divine teifling shapes their personality more than the infernal aspect does. They are gifted with magic from the infernal realms as well as from their divine heritage and are normally guided by a guardian angel to do good.
