Homebrew AbyssWalker Species Details

"You're not a monster. No, not at all. A monster is someone who kills people without feeling. You can't be a monster of a person without doing anything wrong. We can change this, son. We can make a monster of you yet! Kill your friends.

- A"

Abyss Walkers are children of demons and demon lords. They strive for the ordinary life that their fate will never allow.

Accidental Adventurers

Very few Abyss Walkers want to be adventurers, but they are almost always driven into becoming one. Abyss Walkers are children of demons of chaos, and it means that they are very frequently the source of major events in history. Abyss Walkers might get strange dreams telling them about prophecies, suddenly receive powerful abilities overnight, or output strong and unpredicted bursts of energy without meaning to.

Compelled to be good

Abyss Walkers are often steered into the depths of insanity and true evil. To stop this, many Abyss Walkers actively try to be good people to combat their demonic bloodline forcing them into tasks they don't want to do. It's very common for Abyss Walkers to wrap themselves in restrictive chains when sleeping out of fear that their demonic blood will take over during the night.

Attempted Racism

Much like tieflings, people don't really trust Abyss Walkers very frequently. Abyss Walkers don't care. Sometimes, shops have signs saying "CIVILIANS OF DEMON/DEVIL BLOOD NOT WELCOME" but Abyss Walkers will stride in anyway. Racism is a very funny subject to Abyss Walkers. For this reason, they never hold prejudices towards any race. Despite the events in the Blood War, Abyss Walkers actually get on very well with tieflings.

The Loudest Introverts

Abyss Walkers never want to be the center of attention but more often than not, they are. Abyss Walkers can be incredibly fierce and determined, and when they are, their energy can manifest into loud and attention grabbing displays of power. There are stories of Abyss Walkers exploding in a hot ball of fire when they get excited.

Tiefling Names

Abyss Walkers usually name themselves. Most Abyss Walker names tend to revolve around things associated with heat or cold, like Chilly or Blaze.

Alignment

Abyss Walkers always strive to be good, but care very little about what they don't perceive as natural. Almost all abyss walkers are chaotic good.

Impractical Spellcasting

Once per long rest, when you cast a spell, you can choose to morph the spell. It randomly turns into a spell of a level equal to or less than the spell originally cast. The new spell must have something similar to the original spell. For example, if you cast level 5 fireball, it might turn into wall or fire. Similarities might include; spell school, spell damage type, similar effect, similar names (wall of fire, wall of force).

When using this feature, it's probably best to let your DM choose the new spell instead of actually making a table of applicable spells.

Unpredictable

Once per long rest, you can roll a d20. If the result is less than your level, you can change an attribute. You can choose which attribute changes, but not what it changes to. You can revert back to what you were before when you take short rest.

- Gender (Roll a d4. On a 1, you're male. On a 2, you're female. On a 3, you're neither. On a 4, you're both)
