Homebrew Ashenborn Species Details
As an ashenborn, you are descended from both air and fire. As fickle as wind and flame, your moods are volatile but swift to pass. Ashenborn typically have ash-grey skin tones, red to grey eyes, and hair ranging from coal black to ashen white. Ashenborn voices might sound like the wind caused by a wildfire, and they may be accompanied by a constant warm breeze.
Ashenborn Traits
Light as a feather, Ashenborn can manipulate the heat around them for both utility and mobility.Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common and Primordial. Primordial is a guttural language, filled with harsh syllables and hard consonants.
Darkvision
You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Born in Ember
You can hold your breath indefinitely while you’re not incapacitated. You’re also acclimated to high altitude, including elevations above 20,000 feet. You’re also naturally adapted to hot climates, as described in chapter 5 of the Dungeon Master’s Guide.
Touch the Conflagration
You know the control flames cantrip. With this cantrip, you can also use it to affect magical fires. Additionally, if you provide adequate fuel and light it as a real fire, you can use Control Flames to increase the temperature of said fire to burn/melt objects with. Lastly, you can use Control Flames to make a wall of fire 5 ft. wide and 5 ft. long. This wall blocks any vision through it, and creatures that pass through or start their turn in it take 1d8 fire damage. This fire damage increases by an additional d8 at character level 5, 11, and 17.
Once you reach 3rd level, you can cast the feather fall spell once with this trait as a 1st-level spell, and you regain the ability to cast it this way when you finish a long rest. Alternatively, as a reaction, you could burn a 1st-level spell slot to give yourself 30 ft. of fly speed for 1 minute. Constitution is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
