Homebrew Desmotera(Ver. 2) Species Details

The Desmotera appear as batfolk and are found living in the caves of Astra.  Their numbers are few, but enough to have a strong community, even though they will rarely interact with anyone.  The main food of the Desmotera are small animals and large insects with Gnomes being their favorite. Desmotera are masters the stealth dive and surprise attacks.  They prefer to attack from above and are often proficient in ranged weapons.

Little is known about the history of the species other than they have inhabited the region for possibly thousands of years…often in hiding.

Desmotera will usually have rust-colred skin and brown fur or brown skin and black fur, with the black skin and black fur being the most rare.  Desmotera are mostly nocturnal and will begin their day at sunset.

Desmotera(Ver. 2) Traits

The Desmotera appear as batfolk and are found living in the caves of Astra.

Superior Darkvision

You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light and in darkness as if it were dim light.

Claws

Your claws are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you can deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 plus your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage for an unarmed strike.

Flight

You have a flying speed of 40 feet. To use this speed, you can’t be wearing medium or heavy armor.

Vampiric Bite

Your fanged bite is a natural weapon, which counts as a simple melee weapon with which you are proficient. You add your Constitution modifier, instead of your Strength modifier, to the attack damage when you attack with this bite.  It deals 1d4 piercing damage on a hit.  While you are missing half or more of your hit points, you have advantage on attack rolls you make with this bite.

When you attack with this bite and hit a creature that isn’t a Construct or Undead, you can empower yourself in one of the following ways of your choice:

- You regain hit points equal to the piercing damage dealt by the bite.

- You gain a bonus to the next ability check or attack roll you make; the bonus equals the piercing damage dealt by the bite.

You can empower yourself with this bite a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Echolocation

If a Desmotera is blinded, they will not be able to be surprised due to their keen hearing. Desmotera will have advantage on hearing-based perception checks.  Due to their natural sensitive hearing, Desmotera are vulnerable to Thunder damage.
