Homebrew Yuan-ti Abomination Species Details

The bodies of all yuan-ti have a mix of humanlike and snakelike parts, but the proportion varies from individual to individual. After the initial metamorphosis of the humans, their society quickly coalesced into a caste system based on how complete a person’s transformation was. The vast majority of yuan-ti fall into three categories — abominations, malisons, and purebloods — while the mutated broodguards and exceedingly rare anathemas have their place in the hierarchy as well.

Yuan-ti abominations resembled massive snakes, some 8 to 12 feet (2.4 to 3.7 meters) long and weighing approximately 200 to 300 pounds (91 to 140 kilograms), with scale-covered humanoid arms. Their scale patterns were variable according to tribe, but they had the wedge-shaped heads distinctive of venomous snakes

Alignment: Yuan-Ti Abominations are often neutral in alignment, though there is a stigma of being untrustworthy due to their serpent-like nature. They may be accused of engaging in deceitful activities, similar to the reputation of car salesmen.

Lifespan: Your lifespan is similar to that of an elf.

Serpentine Spellcasting

Poison Spray: Conjuration cantrip

Casting Time: 1 action

Range: 10 feet

Components: V, S

Duration: Instantaneous

You extend your hand toward a creature you can see within range and project a puff of noxious gas from your palm. The creature must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or take 1d12 poison damage.

This spell’s damage increases by 1d12 when you reach 5th level (2d12), 11th level (3d12), and 17th level (4d12).

Venomous Bite

You have a venomous bite attack. Make a melee weapon attack with a reach of 5 feet against one creature. On a hit, the target takes 1d6 + your Strength modifier piercing damage, and 3d6 poison damage. This ability recharges after you complete a short or long rest.

Swallow Whole

You can attempt to swallow a creature that is one size smaller than you. The target must make a Strength saving throw (DC 8 + your Strength modifier + your proficiency bonus) or be swallowed by you. A swallowed creature is blinded and restrained, and it takes 2d6 bludgeoning damage and 2d6 acid damage at the start of each of your turns. If you take damage from a source other than the swallowed creature, you must succeed on a Constitution saving throw (DC 10 or half the damage taken, whichever is higher) or regurgitate the swallowed creature. The creature can also escape by using its action to make a Strength check against your escape DC. Once a creature escapes or is regurgitated, it is no longer blinded or restrained.

Constrict

You have a constrict ability. Make a melee weapon attack with a reach of 10 feet against one target. On a hit, the target takes 2d6 + your Strength modifier bludgeoning damage, and the target is grappled (escape DC 14). Until this grapple ends, the target is restrained, and you can't constrict another target. This ability can only be used once per short rest.
