Homebrew Amphirit Species Details
Uncountable eons ago, in a long bygone era, the material plane was dominated by the Nightmarsh, a wild plane home to the early forest spirits, and the domain of Forg, the Pond King. Of course, over time, the swamp began to shrink, as the rest of the world overtook it. But the Nightmarsh may never fade entirely...that is, as long as its guardians, the Amphirits, remain.
Born of spirits, cased in mud, the Amphirits are stalwart protectors of spirits and nature, tending to the marshes and rivers in their homeland, the Nightmarsh, a swamp bathed in ethereal twilight, where nature spirits roam and play. Created by the Pond King Forg by fusing a tadpole spirit with that of a mud body, the Amphirits are devoted to the Pond King's ideals.
Spawn of the Nightmarsh
Amphirits take the appearance of bipedal amphibians, mainly Frogs and salamanders, with 3 fingers on each hand, as well as an opposable thumb. While they vary wildly in color, most Amphirits tend to have red-tipped hands and feet. Amphirits are also quite short and lightweight, only ranging about 3-4 feet in height, and only weighing about 60-80 pounds.
The More The Merrier
Amphirits are fairly social, living in large communities near rivers and ponds. While most Amphirit communities are comprised mainly of just Amphirits, they are generally accepting of all races that enter the Nightmarsh, though they do not take kindly to those who disrespect the Nightmarsh, and, by extension, its spirit inhabitants.
When an Amphirit metamorphosizes into an adult, they often embark on a voyage outside the Nightmarsh, serving as a celebration, a time of reflection, and a way to spread the protection and ideals of Pond King Forg.
Amphirit Names
Amphirits don't assign gender to names, so names aren't limited to one gender. Amphirit names tend to sound similar to words related to amphibians(frog, toad, dart, etc.), or sometimes a physical characteristic(Blue, Green, etc.). However, they tend to have strange spelling and pronunciation(Frog -> Phroug).
