Homebrew Ahuizotl Species Details

Excellent swimmers, ahuizotls lived in lakes and preyed on people who came too near the banks or who ventured out on boats. Submerging itself out of sight like a crocodile, an ahuizotl would raise only its snout out of the water, through which it could mimic voices calling for help. Its attack always began with its tail, with which it drowned its victims. It's tail also possessed a blinding strike whereby it could permanently blind its opponents. Once drowned, victims were brought down to the depths of the lake, where the ahuizotl ate its favored parts, the eyes, teeth, and fingernails. In addition to mimicry, it was intelligent enough to be able to speak Common on its own as well.

Due to its higher-than-average intelligence, the Ahuizotl will grow more neutral as they stay in the Material Plane. Whether accidentally summoned by an ambitious warlock or stumbled upon a gate left open, if the Ahuizotl cannot get back to their plane they will slowly become more attuned to the material. They will build their homes in swamps and near smaller bodies of water out of dried mud and debris. They love collecting things as they grow their own fascinations with the world around them; some steal silverware and display the different kinds amidst their abodes, others will find clothes fascinating and dress themselves up for entertainment. As their alignment shifts away from their Chaotic Evil nature, born in the Far Realm, they find themselves drawing closer to nearby communities. They’ll attempt to befriend those who come close and some even find their way in the “back alleys” of society.
