Homebrew Bat Folk Species Details

Bat like wings, larger ears and piercing fangs are what denote this races most notable features, some have been known to have tails or fur, some are more human like while others can be more Bat like in features.

Bat Folk Traits

As an batfolk, you have certain traits in common with your people. Being able to fly at high speed starting at 1st level is exceptionally effective in certain circumstances and exceedingly dangerous in others. As a result, playing an aarakocra requires special consideration by your DM.

Blind Sense

Having evolved from a creature that had poor eyesight while most Batfolk are capable of seeing fine on their own they still retain this skill from their more primitive days.

Dark Vison

You have blindsight out to a distance of 30 feet.

Echo Location

You use echolocation, sending out a series of high pitched clicks that bounce off nearby objects and walls, letting you know where they are and the shape of the object

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2, and your Wisdom score increases by 1.

Age

Batfolk reach maturity by age 3. Compared to humans, aarakocra don’t usually live longer than 30 years.

Size

Batfolk are about 5 feet tall tho have been known to reach 7 feet. They have thin, lightweight bodies that weigh between 80 and 100 pounds. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 25 feet.

Flight

You have a flying speed of 50 feet. To use this speed, you can’t be wearing medium or heavy armor.

Talons

Your talons are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Batfolk.
