Homebrew Branded Species Details
In Avaros, Dragonborn and Aasimars can be one in the same, known as the Branded. They are exceptionally rare and all descend from the God of the Cosmos. Due to their connection to a deity, they are held in high regard. They typically possess more “cosmic” traits, with colors ranging across blues, purples, and reds. Star-touched skin, or freckles that glow in the moonlight are good examples. Not all Branded are necessarily traditionally draconic and can even possess human shaped faces, but all possess certain draconic features such as horns, tails, claws, and so on.
The God of the Cosmos, Aurum, created the Branded as a cacophony of his residual magic was cast across the plane after he crash landed into its earth, the wave of magic killed many, and those who remained in the radius were forever scarred, touched by Aurum’s magic. The very first of the Branded were gifted a haphazard immortality, taking on many negative traits due to the imbalance of magic in their bodies. As time passed, they were able to stabilize their new genealogy, resulting in modern Branded.
Branded Traits
Your draconic heritage manifests in a variety of traits you possess.Ability Score Increase
When determining your character’s ability scores, increase one score by 2 and increase a different score by 1, or increase three different scores by 1.
Age
Modern day Branded have a balanced life expectancy, reaching to around 300 on average.
Size
Your size varies from below 5 feet to towering well above 7 feet. Your size is Medium.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Draconic Ancestry
When you reach 3rd level, choose one of the Ancestry options below. Thereafter, you can use a bonus action to unleash the draconic energy within yourself, gaining its benefits. Your transformation lasts for 1 minute or until you end it as a bonus action. Once you transform using your Ancestry below, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest:
Aurum’s Wings. Spectral wings sprout from your back temporarily. Until the transformation ends, you have a flying speed equal to your walking speed, and once on each of your turns, you can deal extra Force damage to one target when you deal damage to it with an attack or a spell. The extra damage equals your proficiency bonus.
Light of the Cosmos. Searing purple light temporarily radiates from your eyes and mouth. For the duration, you shed bright light in a 10-foot radius and dim light for an additional 10 feet, and at the end of each of your turns, each creature within 10 feet of you takes Force damage equal to your proficiency bonus. Until the transformation ends, once on each of your turns, you can deal extra Force damage to one target when you deal damage to it with an attack or a spell. The extra damage equals your proficiency bonus.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic. Draconic is thought to be one of the oldest languages and is often used in the study of magic. The language sounds harsh to most other creatures and includes numerous hard consonants and sibilants.
