Vesper, with their short but vibrant lives, mature remarkably quickly, reaching adulthood by the tender age of five. However, their journey through the realms is comparatively brief, with a typical life expectancy spanning a mere two and a half decades. This accelerated life cycle fuels their sense of urgency, compelling them to embrace every moment with enthusiasm and a deep appreciation for the friendships and adventures that grace their twilight-like existence.
Speed
With a base walking speed of 30 feet, the Vesper's small yet agile stature allows them to move swiftly through their world. Their nimble steps are a testament to their inherent grace, enabling them to traverse a variety of terrains with ease. Despite their diminutive size, Vesper embrace the spirit of adventure and exploration, utilizing their rapid stride to keep pace with their larger counterparts. Whether embarking on daring quests or simply enjoying the wonders of their surroundings, their fleet-footedness ensures they can navigate the world with an unyielding sense of curiosity and determination.
Echolocation
A creature with blindsight can perceive its surroundings without relying on sight, within a specific radius. Creatures without eyes, such as oozes, and creatures with echolocation or heightened senses, such as bats and true dragons, have this sense.
*Blindsight does not work if the character is deafened.
Keen Hearing
Vesper's finely attuned bat-like ears grant them a distinct advantage when it comes to Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on their acute sense of hearing. These remarkable auditory abilities allow them to detect even the faintest of sounds and nuances in their surroundings, making them exceptional at spotting hidden threats, navigating through dark and noisy environments, and deciphering the whispers of secrets carried by the wind. Whether they're on a perilous quest or simply enjoying the serene beauty of the night, Vesper's heightened hearing ensures that nothing escapes their vigilant ears, making them invaluable sentinels and perceptive adventurers in the ever-unpredictable world.
Glide
Using your winged arms, you can slow your fall, and glide short distances. When falling you can use your reaction to spread your arms and slow your descent. While doing so, you continue to fall gently at a speed of 60 ft. per round, taking no fall damage when you land. If you fall at least 10 feet in this way, you may fly up to your movement speed in any direction you choose, although you cannot choose to move upwards, and you land in the space where you finish your movement. You cannot glide while carrying heavy weapons or wielding a shield (though you may drop any held items as part of your reaction to spread your arms). You cannot glide while wearing heavy armor, or if you are encumbered.
Ariel Defense
As the Vesper navigate the world with their agile bodies and keen senses, they possess a unique defensive advantage. Even though they can't truly take flight, their ability to glide gracefully gives them a distinct edge. When adversaries attempt to strike them while they're airborne, whether leaping from elevated vantage points or descending with poise, those who target them find their attacks hindered. The Vesper's nimble aerial maneuvers, born of their innate bat-like instincts, create a challenging target, causing attackers to struggle with their aim. This exceptional defensive skill only adds to the mystique of the Vesper race, leaving others in awe of their uncanny ability to evade harm.
Bite Attack
In the midst of moonlit battle, a Vesper's bite becomes a weapon of both grace and precision. With a +4 to hit, they close in on their target, their agile form darting through the shadows. As they sink their sharp teeth into the foe, a sense of primal power courses through them. The bite inflicts 1d4+2 piercing damage, the Vesper's fangs delivering a swift, calculated strike that showcases their prowess in close combat. It serves as a stark reminder that even in their diminutive stature, Vesper possess a formidable bite, echoing the tenacity of their bat-like counterparts in the animal kingdom.
