Homebrew Armor Mimic Species Details

An odd division from the standard species of mimics. Armor mimics tend to mimic much more humanoid objects, such as well.. armor. They usually use this more humanoid mimicry to blend in with humans, and other human-esque races. They blend in like this because imitating humans and the like can be much more effective way of luring in prey.. Armor mimics tend to be much more intelligent than the average mimic, to the point of sentiance and sapiance. Armour mimics' true forms vary from individual to individual, but is most commonly a dark teal, fleshy body with various eyes and teeth scattered about it. They remain humanoid in this state, but are considerably more vulnerable. This true form is more nimble, not constrained by their imitated body, but does not fare well in harsher environments. Armor mimics are capable of imitating most items of clothing, even up to full outfits (limited to those they see and remember), however the items of clothing that make up said outfit will be inseparable, as separating them would be the equivalant of severing a limb. They usually imitate suits of armor, or outfits that would cover a human's entire body as seeing a set of clothing without a head, moving on it's own would give away what they are.

Armor Mimic Traits

Armored mimics share most traits with standard mimics and humans, with some of their own.

Shapechanger

The Armor Mimic can use its action to polymorph into a set armor or full body clothing that it has seen or back into its true, amorphous form. Its statistics are based on the armor/ clothes set it uses with a base AC of 12. It reverts to its true form if it dies.  The Armor Mimic is only able to imitate the AC of clothing/ armor that it knows the full inner workings of, but is able to make itself into armor/ clothing it has only seen, but cannot imitate those sets of armor's AC. It also cannot mimic materials not of this world, such as adamantine, but the same false mimicry applies where no AC is added. The more complex a set of armor is, the longer it takes to mimic it. Starting maximum mimic AC: 13. Max AC increases to 15 at Lvl 5ish, then to 17 at 13.

Grappler

The armor mimic has advantage on attack rolls against any creature grappled by it.

Dark Vision

The armor mimic has 60ft of dark vision. That's it.
