Homebrew Draconic Humanborn Species Details

As their name suggests, Draconic Humanborn are humanoids of both human and dragon lineage. A rare and new race that is considered the mammal equivalent of the egg hatched dragonborn, draconic humanborn share many attributes with both the dragonborn and human races. Most draconic humanborn are faithful servants to true dragons, as their birth was orchestrated by a dragon to further their legacy in new generations and across the species.

A New Hybrid Of Species

Draconic Humanborn look closer to their human bloodline than their draconic one, but with a few very noticeable differences. They have flesh and not scales, though their skin is typically rougher than normal human beings. Their skeletal construction is an amalgamation of humans and dragons, and differs from dragonborn as it includes wings which gives draconic humanborn the ability to fly.  They are slightly taller than humans and are almost as strongly built as dragonborn, often standing over 6 feet tall and weighing at least 250 pounds. Their hands share the same structure as dragonborn with three fingers and a thumb on each hand, but they do not possess the scales or talons that the dragonborn enjoy. The blood of their dragon parents runs very strong through draconic humanborn. These individuals often boast eyes that more closely match those of their dragon ancestor and not their human lineage.

Draconic Humanborn are as much of a mix of humans and dragonborn in their personalities as they are in appearance. They are fiercely loyal creatures, not only to whichever dragon clans they are associated to, but also to their human family. They are as determined and respectful of their dragon clan as dragonborn folk are, and show as much dedication to the human lineage that brought them into this world. However such appreciation is not always reciprocated by members of either species, with dragonborn believing that draconic humanborns are not as strongly linked to the dragon species as they are, and humans tend to see draconic humanborn as an inconceivable curiosity or genetic abomination, rather than a true member of their kind. As a result draconic humanborn can often find their faith in their peers is misplaced or they are not as readily accepted into shared environments by those who hold such reservations.

However such rejection should not prove a downfall for draconic humanborn individuals, as they are both as self-sufficient as dragonborn people and are typically as ambitious as humans are too. They share the hatred of failure and pursuit of self-improvement found in their scaled brethren, which when combined with their human-like desires for fame, fortune and glory, often leads to a highly skilled draconic humanborn adventurer.

Breath Weapon

You can use your action to exhale destructive energy. Your draconic ancestry determines the size, shape, and damage type of the exhalation. When you use your breath weapon, each creature in the area of the exhalation must make a saving throw, the type of which is determined by your draconic ancestry. The DC for this saving throw equals 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus. A creature takes 2d6 damage on a failed save, and half as much damage on a successful one. The damage increases to 3d6 at 6th level, 4d6 at 11th level, and 5d6 at 16th level. Due to the biological differences between Draconic Humanborn and their distant Dragonborn relatives, it takes longer for the humanborn body to regenerate this capability, and after you use your breath weapon, you can’t use it again until you complete a long rest.

Damage Resistance

You have resistance to the damage type associated with your draconic ancestry.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic. Draconic is thought to be one of the oldest languages and is often used in the study of magic. The language sounds harsh to most other creatures and includes numerous hard consonants and sibilants.
