Homebrew Ayakashi Species Details
Ayakashi are a type of undead spirit that takes on an ethereal form after death, often spending years in a spiritual plane. They can, however, return to their original form, from before their death, through some kind of ritual, receiving another name from whoever summoned them, without retaining memories of their past life, thus becoming a near-perfect humanoid weapon.
Appearance: Ayakashi assume the form they had before death upon receiving a new name, being able to almost perfectly mimic another species, even assuming some of its characteristics. The only thing that distinguishes an Ayakashi from other species are the dark spots with eyes that move independently and cover part of its body.
Nameless: Ayakashi receive their names from whoever summoned them, but they generally opt for short names, commonly receiving more than one name for each person they respond to.
Spiritual connection: Ayakashi, in their spiritual form, are often deceptive creatures that frequently attempt to capture or lure more people into joining them as spirits.
