Homebrew Awakened Critter Species Details

Upon your Awakening, your voice becomes externalized, your paws become more dexterous, and your memory expands. For the first time, the giant folk (humanoids) can hear what you say. You're keenly aware of your new consciousness, your bareness,  and your lack of funds.

 Awakened Critters use nature about them to avoid hunters and poachers who mean to do you harm. The height of the trees, the darkness of caves, and the depths of the waters keep you hidden from most. While Awakened Critters are slow to trust humanoids, consistent offers of help and goodwill can make a true friend with qualities of great loyalty and protectiveness. 

Secluded Hideouts

Awakened Critters tend to gravitate toward one another and live in and around large trees, underground burrows, tree-top nests, tree knot holes, dens, ponds, and caves. Typical animal homes that are closer together than their solely bestial counterparts. 

 Awakened Critter Traits

Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 2 and one other skill of your choice increases by 1.

Age. Awakened Critters age slower than their bestial counterparts and live longer as well, reaching adulthood after 3-5 years depending on your species, and living an extended lifespan because of the magic coursing through you letting you live up to 80 years.  

Alignment. Tending towards good, Awakened Critters are neutral by nature. 

Size. Your size is the same as your beast counterpart. 

Speed. Your base walking speed is dependent on your subrace. 

Language. You can speak and understand Common. You can speak with animals using chirps, squeaks, barks, etc.
