Homebrew Ablaxi Species Details

An old grandma igniting a fireplace with a mere touch, a warrior grappling his adversary and bursting into flames, a girl who just lost their finger watching it grow back in mere seconds. They are all ablaxis, with different levels of control over their abilities.

Once regular humans, ablaxis were cursed by the pyromaniac god Conflare to fuel its sadistic obsession of burning people alive. Conflare tricked the ablaxis into accepting this curse by offering rapid regeneration to all who swore to serve him. Little did they know the rapid regeneration was just a way to survive what serving Conflare actually meant. Whenever it felt like it, their bodies started melting to the bones, only for tissues to reconstruct themselves rapidly, to be ready for the next inferno.

Curse die

Some of your racial traits cause searing pain to course your body, as Conflare's will flows over you. This fire damage is determined by your curse die. At level 1, it is a D4, and it becomes a D6 at level 5, a D8 at level 11 and a D10 at level 17.

Curse of Conflare

Whenever you take a short or long rest, you gain a curse charge. As an action, you can spend a curse charge to burst in flame, causing fire damage to anything inside your reach, including you. Each creature affected must make a dexterity saving or take damage equal to a roll of your curse die + your constitution modifier. You automatically fail this saving throw. Whenever you start a short or long rest and already have three or more curse charges, you suffer a level of exhaustion and cannot gain the benefits of that rest, as you are fighting Conflare's will.

Rapid regeneration

Whenever you suffer any physical or fire damage that doesn't  kill you, you recover hit points equal to your level. The amount of hit points recovered cannot exceed the amount of damage received from the source that triggered this feature. If you suffer from multiple damage types from a single attack, you can only recover hit points once. For example, if you are hit by a long sword infused with fire, you could only heal once and not twice, even if you took fire and slashing damage from that attack.

You can add your curse die to the amount of hit points recovered once per long rest.

Additionally, starting at level 5, you add you constitution modifier to the amount of hit points recovered from this feature.

The Cult of Embers

Certain ablaxis embrace Conflare as a benevolent God and wish to share his gift with others. They have learned to inflict others with a small part of their curse.

This effect is repeated every turn until the afflicted creature succeeds on their constitution saving throw.

Additionally, every time an afflicted creature takes damage from your curse die, you are granted temporary hit points by Conflare equal to your constitution modifier until the end of combat or until you gain temporary hit points from another source.
