Homebrew Corvid Species Details

Braving the Fog

Corvids are known for their Cunning and Bravery, often braving going into the Fog to scavenge items. They hunt creatures, collect items, rare food and plant items, and more below the fog. Corvid society is based around the fog, and everything from their clothing to their food to their houses comes from the Fog. Corvids decorate their clothing with beads and items scavenged from below the fog. Divers trade items they've found to others for money and items, but getting a Diver to part with any items they like is a challenge. When Diving, Corvids wear masks and slow down their breathing to lengthen the amount of time they can stay below the fog to scavenge.

Appearance

Corvids skin ranges from very Dark skin to mid tone Brown skin, and they have black or brown eyes. Corvids have black, dark brown, or white straight hair they keep sleek and shiny. Their hair is kept long, but never down, always in braids or buns, especially when Diving. Corvids have wider flatter noses that they can close off to prevent them from breathing in the Fog. They prefer tattoos to makeup, and both are often white or pastel colors to contrast their skin. They have tattoos of dots or lines from the jaw down the throat, and some occasionally wear white under eyeliner.  Corvids are Dimorphous by height. Height range varies depending on the type of Corvids, and females have a higher average height than males. The height ranges from 1.90 m (6' 3") to about 1.42 m (4' 6"). Corvids have two sets of eyelids, one clear and see-through for the fog, and one normal set.

Corvid wings are black, white, and blue feathers.

Society

Corvid society is matriarchal, with men doing most of the scavenging/Diving, while the women lead. Men and women are equally involved in child-rearing. Corvids live for an average of 110 years, though the lifespan of Divers is closer to 60 years. As such, the elderly are mostly women, and the demographic breakdown of gender is 54% women, 45% men, and 1% Erman. Corvids mate for life and have an average of 1-2 children. Children become adults at the age of 16. Often many generations of the same family will live together in houses, which sit on the sides of cliffs close to the Fog.

Social gatherings are common and often hosted by the Matriarch of a family. These gatherings are places where men can show off their items and dance and tell stories to attract possible mates.

Clothing and tools are rarely made of metal, as the Fog is prone to corroding most metals. Clothing is made of leather, furs, feathers, bark, and bone, and is often decorated with beads and items from the Fog. The only metal that can be found on Corvids is Serpent eggs, which are metal orbs used to draw the Serpent (lighting) away from Divers below the Fog.

Family

Family is very important to Corvids, and they often have symbols of their family woven into their clothing and cloaks. Each Corvid, upon reaching adulthood, receives their Ancestral cloak from their mother or nearest woman relative. The cloak is made with the feathers of an ancestor and lined with their own down feathers on the inside. The cloaks have hoods and slits for wings and arms to exit out of.

A corvid without an ancestral cloak is a pitied corvid with no family.
