Homebrew Snailanoid (Humanoid Snail Folk) Species Details

Snailanoids are random spawn from giant snails, due to an unknown evolutionary mishap from lesser snails to giant snails. This race of creature is often unrecognized and non-protected by their fellow kin due to the stark difference in appearance. Appearance-wise, they are humanoids with a greater snail head with and snail foot no legs, snail-like skin, and elements of chitin natural armour as well as a shell on their back about the size of a large backpack, These shells can have actual backpacks and sheaths attached to it. 

In terms of race-specific abilities, Snailanoids can use their natural extraction of bodily mucus to attach to and climb on walls. Snailanoids can also seal themselves in a parchment-like natural membrane called an operculum to protect themselves from natural weather and temperatures that may be harmful. Snailanoids are hermaphrodites and can breed with any other Snailanoid as well as themselves with a lower chance of survival for the eggs, there is no gender class. 

Snailanoids can go without eating for up to 5 days and can breathe underwater for 24 hours and up to a week if they seal themselves in an operculum. 

Snailanoids have the same mental ability as humans and can be taught to do most things humans can.

Age

Snailanoids mature at 10 years of age and will live from 200 to 300 years of age. 

Size

Snailanoids will normally be 5.5" to 6.5" in height.

Nature's Instinct

Linked to ancestors of greater and lesser snails, nature's instinct gives Snailanoids advantage on survival checks and proficiency in wisdom and constitution saving throws. 

Natural Resistance and Vulnerability

You are resistant to poison damage but are vulnerable to acid damage. (salt can threaten a Snailanoid's life, even the smallest amount). 

Language

You can read, write and speak common. Snailanoids also speak a language that only other Snailanoids understand. 

Mucus Covered Skin

Snailanoids' skin having a layer of natural mucus makes it near impossible for Snailanoids dexterous tasks, giving them disadvantage of Dexterity checks

Consume both action and bonus action when using the action Dash, to lay a line of mucus from your original position, any creature that enters this mucus will have their movement speed halved and must pass a DEXTERITY check of 10 or be prone and experience 1 d4 of acid damage. 

Chitin Shell

You have a base AC of 15 due to your chitin shell, You cannot wear armour unless it is made to fit. (DM Discretion) 

Greater Darkvision

Snailanoids naturally inherited the natural ability of lesser and greater snails to be well-adapted to dark and dim conditions.
