Homebrew Yuki-onna Species Details

Description

Yuki-onna, or snow women, are a race of icy female spirits. They prey on travelers lost in the heavy snowstorms that blanket the tall Northern mountains in winter. They have an otherworldly beauty, with long black hair and piercing eyes colored deep violet. Their skin is ageless and as white as snow. Their bodies are as cold as ice, and a mere touch is enough to give a human a deep, unshakable chill. 

Behavior

Yuki-onna sometimes fall in love with their intended prey and let them go free. Some will even marry humans and live happily together with their husbands. As yuki-onna age very slowly, their husbands inevitably discover their true identities. When hunting, they stay near mountain roads and prey on the travelers coming and going, or break into homes and flash-freeze all of the inhabitants during the night. Occasionally, Yuki-onna will join forces with winter wolves to take down large villages, though this is usually only in dire times.

Your Charisma score increases by 2 and your Wisdom score increases by 1.

Age

Yuki-onna age slowly. They reach adulthood at about 30 and can live to be 500 years old.

Alignment

Yuki-onna value peace and quiet, making them usually Neutral Evil. However, there are many that have kinder hearts than others, and can be Neutral or even Good in alignment.

Size

Yuki-onna range from under 5 to over 6 feet tall and have slender builds. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Winter Wolf.

Cold Resistance

You have resistance to cold damage. You’re also naturally adapted to cold climates, as described in chapter 5 of the Dungeon Master’s Guide.

Serene Snowstorm

You know the frostbite cantrip. Once you reach 7th level, you can cast the gaseous form spell once with this trait, and you regain the ability to cast it this way when you finish a long rest. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

Icy Footwork

Terrain such as icy surfaces and deep snow do not count as Difficult Terrain for you.
