The Bisque Doll

These creatures look like humans, but when you start looking at them closely, they have this empthy aura around them. They can be either good or evil, depending on who they had as their owner or master. Dolls are not a living  creature so they dont need food or drink, but they Love drinking tea. they try their best to mimic human emotions, but this can be diffucult and lead to akward situations.

Makers

Dolls have to be made by someone, they cant make them self. very often a toymaker makes dolls or a skilled craftsman or woman. There are a few well known doll makers, one of them is Bernadette Heledove, also known as "Mother of Dolls". Her dolls have striking beauty and are known to be sturdy. they also look very lifelike and can often have emotions very similar to humans. they have to mimic the emotions tho.

How dolls work

they way dolls stay together is with strong elastic or dowel jointing. they are made out of a type of porcelian called bisque. Dolls can have a few diffrent body types: Leather with bisque sholderplate, head, arms and feet (this method is mostly used for companion dolls, not for adventurerer dolls). All bisque, witch means they are all made out of bisque (most comon body type). All bisque, but reenforced wih metal at the joints, hands and feet (male dolls, though not very common, use this body type). the last body time is composition, its a material consisting of wood, glue and paper. its quite sturdy as well, this body is usually a replacement if a dolls body is broken but the head is intackt.

when dolls are finished, they get a clockwork heart put in their chest. you can accses this heart by asking nicely and the doll will find their key and unlock it for you. Since its a clockwork it needs to be wound, so every 100 years dolls need to be rewound. If this dose not happen, the doll is thechnikly dead. dolls are also considered dead if they are completly crushed or is damaged beyond repair. if the doll has an owner, they can take the heart out of the "dead" doll and put in in a new doll body. However this now a completly new doll, it has no memory of its old life or owner. 

since dolls are not living creatures, they dont need to eat, drink or sleep. However dolls like to imitate human actions, so if a doll is offered a cup of tea (witch they LOVE, obviusly..) they will gladly take it and join you :) they can eat and drink things but it dosent affect them, sometimes dolls have to clean them selfs out so the food inside them dont go bad. they dont need sleep, but if they see a nice bed after a long day, they will "sleep" (basicly have their eyes closed and make cartoonish snooring noices). they also need to prosess their memories if not they can lose them or go insane if they never do this. this takes a long rest to complete.

dolls can also walk underwater since they dont need to breathe. they float but if they hold something heavy then can walk on the sea floor.

Apearence

dolls look like humans, but they are the idealistic verson. there are both male and female dolls. male dolls have slightly femenine features though. They can be white or any natural skincolor. Since dolls have balljoints, some makers choose to accsent this with lines around the part that connets to the joint. if the doll has metal hands and feet, the hands look like knight gloves and are very strong. the feet look like knight shoes.

dolls have really pretty glass eyes, made by only the best glassblowers. Eyes are then window to the soul, so they have to made perfectly. Most dolls have wigs that are glued on, the hair can be mohair (hair from a mohairgoat) or human hair. The hair can also be from a deciced loved one.The hair can be long or short. Male dolls can have glued on beards and or mustaches etc. the hair can be any natural hair color.

dolls can have molded shoes and socks or real ones. they prefer to look their best and might go out in their finest clothing even though they are going to a simple market. They love silks, lace, ribbons, fake flowers etc. dolls also wear gloves, some dolls wear them for fun. but some dolls might wear them because they are self concious of their jointed fingers. 

Fans are a favorite with dolls, they allways carry one with them (even male dolls, even tho tho dont like to admit it). Parasols are also a favorite. so if u a see a person with a fan and a parasol, its most likely a doll.

Hold it together!

since dolls have joints, they need something to hold them together. Very often dolls have balljoints. witch is a loose ball or a bean shaped piece where an elbow or knee would be. and then dolls have elastic going thru them, since they are hollow to fit the elastic and machinery inside. "S" shaped hooks conect their hands, feet and head to their body. if this elastic is broken or cut, the doll will need repair, you can have this done at a skilled craftsmans studio or a toymakers shop or at a tailors. if the damage is very little, say the elastic is unraveling u can take a short rest to fix it. however ir the bisque is broken, it will need replacement, you can have a blaksmith, a jeweller or a toymaker make a new piece. the doll can also care a new finger for eample from wood, but this is only temparary.

Sturdier dolls have pin joints, that is where u have to prongs on one piece and then one prong on the other. then a metal pin is insetred thru all three pieces. but this makes them stiffer and more like a toy solider. this can be a good thing though, if the doll is a guard or made to fight.

A clockwork Heart

dolls have a clock work heart, witch is located in the chest of the doll. To open this door you need a key, witch often is kept safe by the master, while other times the dolls keep it safe them selfs. this key also functions as a winding key, because the dolls heart needs winding every 100 years. if the doll is not wound the doll will fall in a coma, until they are rewound or considered dead. if the heart for some reason is removed from the dolls chest, they will collpase and be in the same state as unwound. because of this a doll will only let people it trusts near it heart.

If a doll is broken beyond repair or shattrered completly, the heart can be placed in a new doll. however this is now a completly new doll, witch has no memory of its old life or owner.

Sleep little doll

Dolls dont need to sleep, but they like to imitate humans, so after a long day a doll might "sleep"with the rest of its party. they will then close their eyes and make cartoonish snooring noises. eventually the doll will fall into "save memories" mode. dolls need to do this or they will eventually loose their most recent memories. this happens after "sleeping", and takes about 6 hours. if a doll never saves their memories they will have a chanc of going insane.

 

Companion or servant?

Dolls are usually made to serve someone or keep them company. if a doll has a master, they will do exactly what their master says. it dosent matter if its a good or evil task, the doll will follow it. Some towns will keep the male dolls as guards, sometimes females are also used.  

dolls can aslo be companions. To a lonely child, an elderly lady or for people who prefer dolls over complicated humans. If the owner or master dies, the doll will either look for a new master or take its own fredom and try to blend in with human society till the winding runs out.

the rearest type of doll is the living doll, they are better at mimicing human emotions then other dolls. these dolls try to blend more in with human society, they are more shy and paranoied then other dolls because they are scared to be exposed as a doll.
