Homebrew Aer-hîn Elf Species Details

“As I ventured through the enchanting realm of Aedrassil, my heart quickened as I beheld the wondrous sight of the Aer-hîn Elves and their celestial-like structures. The elves, towering and radiant, moved with grace and an otherworldly allure, their grandeur rivaling the very celestial beings that graced the night sky.

Amidst the realm's lush forests, the Nelyar Elves thrived, their eyes carrying the wisdom of ages as they tended to the ancient trees. Their ethereal songs seemed to harmonize with the whispering leaves and the laughter of forest creatures. Magical lights, like stars brought to life, danced around them, casting an enchanting glow over their hidden groves.

In the city of the Tatyar Elves, craftsmanship reached heights previously unimaginable. Glistening spires of crystal and intricately carved edifices pierced the sky. As I marveled at their grand creations, I could feel the pulsing heartbeat of artistry and innovation that thrummed through the city streets. The Tatyar Elves, with their hands blessed by creative spirits, crafted wonders that could rival the heavens.

Finally, at the shoreline, the Minyar Elves guided their majestic vessels through the ever-changing tides of the great sea. These seafaring elves, their figures graced with the aura of the ocean, appeared as celestial navigators on a journey guided by the stars. I watched in awe as their vessels glided through the water, their sails adorned with symbols of ancient celestial constellations.

The Aer-hîn Elves and their celestial-like world were an embodiment of beauty and grace, a living testament to the harmonious blend of elven magic and the wonders of nature. As a humble traveler, I felt truly privileged to witness their realm, for it was a glimpse into a realm where the boundaries between the earthly and the divine seemed to blur, creating a celestial tapestry that defied description.."

Dagan Stockton & Tidhuie Dobra, In the Light of The Eldar

The Aer-hîn Elves are a magical people of celestial grace, living in the world but not entirely part of it. They live in places of ethereal beauty, in the midst of ancient forests or in silvery spires glittering with faerie light, where soft music drifts through the air and gentle fragrances waft on the breeze. Elves love nature and magic, art and artistry, music and poetry, and the good things of the world.

Slender and Graceful

With their unearthly grace and fine features, elves appear hauntingly beautiful to humans and members of many other races. They are slightly shorter than humans on average, ranging from well under 5 feet tall to just over 7 feet. They are more slender than humans, weighing only 100 to 145 pounds. Males and females are about the same height, and males are only marginally heavier than females.

Elves’ coloration encompasses the normal human range and also includes skin in shades of copper, bronze, and almost bluish-white, hair of green or blue, and eyes like pools of liquid gold or silver. Elves have no facial and little body hair. They favor elegant clothing in bright colors, and they enjoy simple yet lovely jewelry.

A Timeless Perspective

Aer-hîn Elves can live well over 7000 years, giving them a broad perspective on events that might trouble the shorter-lived races more deeply. They are more often amused than excited, and more likely to be curious than greedy. They tend to remain aloof and unfazed by petty happenstance. When pursuing a goal, however, whether adventuring on a mission or learning a new skill or art, elves can be focused and relentless. They are slow to make friends and enemies, and even slower to forget them. They reply to petty insults with disdain and to serious insults with vengeance.

Like the branches of a young tree, Aer-hîn elves are flexible in the face of danger. They trust in diplomacy and compromise to resolve differences before they escalate to violence. They have been known to retreat from intrusions into their woodland homes, confident that they can simply wait the invaders out. But when the need arises, elves reveal a stern martial side, demonstrating skill with sword, bow, and strategy.

Higher Societal Plane Beings

The Aer-hîn Elves, born of divine union, dwell in celestial realms that reflect their unique lineage. Their choice of living areas is as diverse as their own abilities, offering glimpses of their exalted status in the intricate social webs of Aedrassil.

The Nelyar Aer-hîn Elves have made their homes in the enchanted forests of the world, where ancient trees stand sentinel. Their communion with nature and their celestial origins have granted them the ability to coax the growth of these mystic forests. They are often found living in treetop abodes, amidst the vibrant foliage and the soft luminescence of ethereal plants.

The Tatyar Aer-hîn Elves are master crafters, residing in grand celestial cities where crystal spires pierce the sky. These cities are renowned for their architectural wonders, a testament to the Tatyar's expertise in creation. Their society places great importance on innovation and the pursuit of artistic excellence.

The Minyar Aer-hîn Elves, being mariners, live on vessels of wonder, including magnificent floating cities. Their homes traverse the seas, drawing inspiration from the stars and the ever-changing tides. Their life on the sea is a harmonious blend of exploration and trade, as they navigate the world's oceans and foster connections with distant lands.

In the grand tapestry of Aedrassil, the Aer-hîn Elves hold a unique place, as they are both part of elvenkind and the divine. This status bestows upon them a sense of responsibility, as they strive to guide their fellow elves and protect the sanctity of the world's enchantments.

Exploration and Adventure

Elves take up adventuring out of wanderlust. Since they are so long-lived, they can enjoy centuries of exploration and discovery. They dislike the pace of human society, which is regimented from day to day but constantly changing over decades, so they find careers that let them travel freely and set their own pace. Elves also enjoy exercising their martial prowess or gaining greater magical power, and adventuring allows them to do so. Some might join with rebels fighting against oppression, and others might become champions of moral causes.

HAUGHTY BUT GRACIOUS

Although they can be haughty, elves are generally gracious even to those who fall short of their high expectations—which is most non-elves. Still, they can find good in just about anyone.

Dwarves.   The Tatyar share an affinity with the Dwarves due to their shared love of crafting and innovation. The intricate craftsmanship of the Tatyar fascinates the Dwarves, forging a unique bond.

Halflings. They find Halflings to be intriguing, appreciating their connection to nature and their simple, unassuming lives. The Halflings' close bond with the earth mirrors the Nelyar's connection to the enchanted forests.

Humans. n their encounters with Humans, the Aer-hîn Elves often perceive them as beings with fleeting lives, akin to children due to their shorter life spans. This view can lead to a sense of guardianship and an eagerness to impart the wisdom of the ages.

Elf Names

Elves are considered children until they declare themselves adults, some time after the hundredth birthday, and before this period they are called by child names.

On declaring adulthood, an elf selects an adult name, although those who knew him or her as a youngster might continue to use the child name. Each elf’s adult name is a unique creation, though it might reflect the names of respected individuals or other family members. Little distinction exists between male names and female names; the groupings here reflect only general tendencies. In addition, every elf bears a family name, typically a combination of other Elvish words. Some elves traveling among humans translate their family names into Common, but others retain the Elvish version.
