Homebrew Dragon Warforged Species Details

A very long time ago, a mad smither must have created you. For a reason unknown, you were forged from the dying hate of a dragon and it's lukewarm corpse - and now, its fury lives on within you.

You are a Warforge with draconic abilities and traits. You contain the best of both creatures, and can be ruthless as a fighter.

Dragon Warforged Traits

Your creation has gifted you with a concoction of draconic and artificial traits.

Wings of a Corpse

You are a creation made from strife and steel - from the corpse of a dragon and the fury of its flame. You have its breath, its claws, and alongside that - its wings.

You have a flight speed of 20 ft. Should the wings become damaged, you must remember to gorge yourself on metal in order to replenish the damage.

Hydrophobia

Two factors are at play when it comes to your inability to survive nor act accurately within water.

One, your heavy metallic body weighs you down significantly, and reduces your water speed to 0, effectively making it impossible for you to swim without magical aid.

And two, the core of your body is entirely magic based, and thus can be swamped and overrun by water. When performing movement based actions when in heavy rain or in water that reaches joints, for example attacking, climbing or flying, must be rolled with disadvantage.

Preprogrammed

You were made for a purpose, but creating a creature with the sentient fury of a dragon has drawbacks - and so you contain one failsafe of your own.

You have two phrases that, once said in any conversation within 15 ft of you, causes the following effects:

Activation phrase will cause you to cease your current action and turn towards the speaker of the phrase, lacking autonomy and awaiting a command, the effect lasts 1 hour or until you are dismissed by the speaker.

Deactivation phrase will cause you to cease your current action and lower to the floor, folding up into a condensed form and be plunged into involuntary Long Rest. The effect lasts until after the end of the Long Rest, or until reactivated by the speaker or another individual.

These phrases are for you to choose, and for you to preferably share with your DM. This trait, while it affects gameplay, is mostly roleplay driven, and therefore semi-optional.

Dragon Core

You have choice over what type of dragon has suffered a dramatic death in order to form your warforged body.

Different dragon types will produce different types of Breath Weapon, so be cautious with your choice, however no matter what your choice, the dragon's repurposed eyes have granted you with Darkvision.

Draconic Claws

Once belonging to the fearless dragon that succumbed to form you, your metal hands are built around large, deadly talons that protrude from the ends of your fingers.

Separate from an unarmed strike, choosing to strike with your claws will do 1d8 slashing damage per hand on a successful hit. Let's hope it doesn't get infected...

Ability Score Increase

Your Constitution score increases by 2. Another ability, of your choosing, is also raised by 1.

Age

As creatures of steel and dragons fury, you contain very little biological matter to decay with the passage of time - in fact, all you need to maintain is your joints and your fire, occasionally feeding the beast within you via the hard crunch of metal.

Because of this, Dragon Warforges never really fail to time unless they are failed to take care of. You are immune to magical aging effects, and effectively cannot age, with a lifespan that is mostly undetermined.

Alignment

Most warforges, traditionally made from rough, sharp steel, find comfort in order and legality. They tend to lean towards neutral and lawful alignments - however, being made from the rage and fury of a long-dead dragon, your kind tend to lean to more chaotic alingments.

Constructed Resilience

Your mechanical body leaves you free of most biological processes or harmful effects.

As such, you are immune to disease and have resistance to poison damage, with advantage on saving throws against being poisoned.

You do not need to drink - however, you still need to eat metal to fuel your flame and have access to air in order to stoke it.

You need not sleep, and you cannot be put to sleep by magical means.

Immobile Rest

Your fiery mechanical body renders you free from the requirement of sleep, however sometimes even a dragon needs to recharge.

When taking a long rest, you are effectively rendering yourself entirely immobile for six, or more, hours. You are not unconscious as you do so, simply stationary, and can see and hear as normal - you just are unable to turn your head or speak.

Metallic Skin

Your skin is made from that of tough, dragon-forged metal. Because of this you have several defensive layers, and have a passive +1 to your armour class. The weight of your skin, however, reduces your base speed to 20ft.

Any armour you choose to wear, you must be proficient in, and must incorporate it into your body over the course of 1 hour while remaining in full contact with the armour. Similarly, to remove the armour, you must spend 1 hour discorporating it from your body.

Once incorporated, it can never be taken off of your body, while you are still alive, by any other individual other than yourself.

Language

You can read, write, speak and understand Common, Draconic and one other language of your choice.

Streamlined Design

You have been made for a purpose - that purpose may be long lost now, but it is still reflected in your design.

You have proficiency in one tool of your choice and one skill of your choice.

Damaged Metal

Should you become wounded, normal healing techniques do very little to help you, due to the lack of biological matter within your body.

Because of this, you may discover the hard way that your fellow adventurers or companions cannot effectively aid you. But do not fret - you are not as close to death as you may think.

You can recover health by gorging yourself on steel and other metals, regaining 1d4 health for every large piece of metal you eat. A large piece is defined as anything the size of your palm, or above.

Metallic Follower

Perhaps you were lonely, or maybe just needed someone to share this fury with - but either way, you spent time toiling over your own body in order to create this being.

Upon reaching level 4, you gain a follower of that of a small, metallic dragon. Its size is tiny and is less than a foot tall. It has a walking speed of 40ft and a flying speed of 55ft.

It can be summed at will, and it bounces out of your chest cavity or climbs out of your head in order to get to the floor. It can also be cast away at command, in which it will return to the fire within your body.

It has a HP of 10 and similarly can heal through the consumption of metal, but not by magical means. You are made from the same substance, and thus both know where each other are at all times.
