Homebrew Displacer Species Details
The fight was nagging on the young prince, he was tired, breathing heavly, but so to was his opponent. He had to finish this fight soon, or he would lose. Prince Rolfe of Ashary gripped his great sword, already laced with blood, and prepared his next strike. His opponent, his assassin, held a long rapier, covered in crimson as well.
The prince dashed, running straight to his foe, he reached into his pocket and grabbed a handful of powder, arching it upwards at the assassins face. The sliver dust got in the rouge's eyes and lungs, making him step backward and cough, lowering his weapon. Rolfe took this opportunity and with all his might slashed across, cutting clean the assasin's head from his body. The prince watched as his opponent fell to the stone floor, and let out a sigh of relief.
"Well that wasn't very fair. I thought princes play clean." The head on the floor spoke with a cynical voice, it's body scooped it up and placed it back where it belongs. The neck fused and no marks of any damage remain. The assassin wiped his eyes, "Oh come on, you didn't think I would be that easy to kill, did you?"
Tomb of New Species: Displacers
Documented by Taenya Daemys
The Perfect Spy
Displacers appear entirely human, and so many are treated as such, blending into most cities and towns with ease. However, the major trait that sets humans and displacers apart is their ability to remove any body part without pain or discomfort. Many organizations and guilds will use displacers to scout or spy, by simply leaving an eye or ear they can eavesdrop and report what they hear or see. This being the case, one of the easiest ways to separate a displacer from a human is if they wear eye patches or keep long hair covering their ears. Or easier yet, if a human puts their decapitated head back on, they are probably a displacer.
Born from Magic
Long ago, this race found its way into existence by the works of powerful wizards and other magic users. The intended purpose of these beings was solely to infiltrate and keep watch, so the old magic allows interdimensional transfer of nutrients, oxygen, and blood to any unattached organ or body part, as well as connecting the nerves. Meaning as long as the displacer has air, food, and water, the head can be separated from the rest of the body indefinitely. This makes the displacers resistant to any form of slashing damage. However, there is a consequence to this magic, the skin and bones of displacers are frailer then most, while making attaching and removing parts easier, it leads them to be weak and vulnerable to any type of bludgeoning damage.
To Rebel, or Not to Rebel
Since most displacers where created, not born, they stay strictly in the group that made them. Displacers are often found very loyal, and stay with their creators no matter what; however, those that do rebel against their are let loose into the world, and either make a stand for displacer-kind or fade away into the shadows. Whether they are on their own, or in a group, displacers have no place to truly call home, leading them to love exploring and wondering. And those few who are born from wondering displacers cherish their freedom and value their individuality most. Also, since displacers are rare in most cases, any interaction with those of the same race are generally friendly, creating bonds even between free and loyal displacers.
The Distrusted
With the great majority of displacers being assassins, spies, and other sketchy occupations, and a long history of it, they have been branded with distrust. Most races, especially humans, dislike and often question and interrogate any revealed displacer they come across. This stereotype both helps and hurts them, leading displacers to work in the shadows and skip towns as needed, but it also gives them an impressive reputation for infiltration and other silent professions.
