Homebrew Ailouroi Species Details
Ailouroi (singular Ailouros) are a sapient feline race who originate from sparsley populated mountainous regions. Some Ailouroi have taken to living in forests and tundra, but their cultural and spititual home remains the snow capped mountains. Ailouroi are contemplative creatures who prize wisdom and learning. They despise commerce and the obsession of some races to making money. Ailouroi value their personal space. They will tend to find one friend or mate with whom they form a special bond, but will rarely open-up to others.
Although Ailouroi tend to live alone or in pairs in the wilderness, there are a small number of well established settlements in the highlands that preserve the collective knowledge and culture of the Ailouroi. These settlements are know as Akademoi and resemble something between universities and monastries. Ailouroi will go on learning pilgrimages at different periods of their lives (or when the mood takes them) and travel the world seeking out gnosi exoteriki or external knowledge. After a period of years they will bring this knowledge to the Akedemoi and share it so that it become part of Ailouroi shared knowledge. All new knowledge brought to the Akedmemoi is scrutinised by a board of respected and experienced Ailouroi known as the Skeptikoi. It is a source of great pride and respect to bring new knowledge.
After they have shared their gnosi exoteriki they will spend a period of time contemplating and seeking gnosi esoteriki which is internal or spiritual knowledge. The ultimate goal of an Ailouros is to know everything. In practice it is known by all Ailouroi that this is impossible, so they strive to learn as much as possible about many things, or to learn one skill or area of knowledge completely.
Although they have no trust or faith in the gods, they do possess a dual spirituality based firstly on the flows of energy and life force in the world around them and secondly on the idea that rational thought and knowledge can advance the wellbeing of all. For the Ailouroi the idea of their collective knowledge is the god they create for themselves while the natuaral scientific processes of the world are akin to a god that exists without the Ailouroi. Conventional Ailouroi wisdom holds that these two concepts must be kept in balance for a kosmos kalos or good world for all, but there are those that challenge this notion. Ailouroi respect all viewpoints that can stand-up to rigour and debate.
Ailouroi tend to be more intelligent that their Tabaxi cousins, but slightly less agile.

Your large pupils and sensitivity to light give you superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray. Furthermore, you are unable to percieve the colour red which to you appears as different hues of grey. For this reason you purple appears as blue to you and orange appears as yellow. You are aware that other creatures percieve colour differently to you.
Ailouroi claws
Because of your claws, you have a climbing speed of 20 feet. In addition, your claws are natural weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with them, you deal slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike. Ailouroi claws may count as a finesse weapon and may be used for sneak attacks. At 5th level slashing damage becomes 1d6 + Strength modifier/Dexteriry modifier if finessing.
