Homebrew Cataclysmic Species Details
-Born unto demons, these creatures are spread far and wide across the great wasteland of the cataclysm. When travelling the wasteland of the cataclysm, we happened upon a pack of them. upon their warped and twisted flesh, they bore dark crystals, the colour of night, with demonic energies flickering between the crystals lining their bodies. Nearly took me life that day, they did. -Nikolas Andaris, Ambassador of corcium
The great cataclysm
The cataclysmic were a race born upon the world of Accarin not so long ago. As the name suggests, they were born unto the cataclysm, a terrible blight that shook both of the major continents.
In the time of the War of continents, a battle raged on the Coastal plains of Carrique, now know as the cataclysm. The Armies of great Ryth, in an unexpected push, moved the invaders, back towards the sea. and in turn their homeland of Corcium. In a final last ditch attempt, to take carrique, the Great arch-mage Omiros Hatraz summoned dark magics to open a portal that connected abyss to the world of Accarin.
Swarms of these abyssal warriors crawled into the lands of Carrique, destroying the fertile land and corrupting it into a terrible land much like the abyssal planes from which they came. This created a problem for Omiros and the soldiers of his lands, as although he opened a portal for the demons to enter this world, no deals were made, nor contracts signed and as such, the demons were not willing to share this frontier. Omiros, realizing his mistake, sacrificed himself to end the demons reign upon this world. The Black, towering crystals, and those lining the bodies of the cataclysmic are relics of the power of the demons, and the magic used to seal them
Demonic Infusion
the crystals inlaid into the skin of the cataclysmic are a prison for terrible demonic energies, and those magics used to imprison them. The crystals are near unbreakable, but if somehow they are destroyed, they release a great demonic energy, destroying and deforming anything within a small radius.
Although the crystals are suffused with demonic energy, no amount of warding is able to contain it's full effects. These demonic energies stored in the crystals that line the cataclysmic's bodies leak into it, giving the cataclysmic some abyssal power of their own.
Souls Forged
Being infused with the essence of the abyss, most of the original cataclysmic lost their souls to the demons of the underworld. Those newer cataclysmic, once born are no longer under the sway of the abyss, but only own a shred of a soul, having near no morale compass. Unlike the other races of Accarin, the cataclysmic are not born with a fully formed soul. Those that grow near other cataclysmic seem unchanged.
Sometimes Cataclysmic are raised by those of another race, or their soul seems to develop alone. Those that do develop a soul often acquire the alignment of those who raised them. Those rare few who naturally develop a soul are often a blank canvas, and are struck with deep wanderlust. Many of these are killed trying to enter human cities.
Cataclysmic names
Cataclysmic are given no names, as emotions are a thing foreign to them. Those that grow up in other societies tend to take on names common to that race. Those who manage to wander into other lands generally take on the first name they hear, taken with amazement in what seems to them to be a surplus of emotions and feelings stored within.
Different cultures
Cataclysmic's adopted into societies from birth often mimic the behaviors of those that raise them, but are usually more serious than most of that race due to being commonly shunned. This behavior highly contrasts those that wander into societies, who are impressed by everything, especially things that hold emotional value or are brightly coloured. Not fully understanding the value of negative emotions, and things like threats or insults seem nothing to them, appearing to be useless. After all, with happy emotions being so much fun, why be grumpy?
