Homebrew Carrion Parasite Species Details

Like Mind Flayers, But....

Carrions on their own are only 3 inches in height, are red in color, and can be compared to a slug without their hosts but when they are attached to their hosts, they are a force to be reckoned with if the parasite is old enough. When they are attached to a host they have the option to take three forms, that of a mass of flesh that is an amalgamation of tentacles, the form of the host where they will have the strength, dexterity, and constitution of the host. You could also take the form of anyone you have consumed in the past

The evil goddess Ragnora

The god the Carrion worship is known as “Ragnora” who is the goddess of the hive and all things that run off a hivemind or are insectoid in nature. The goddess is also an extremely sick and evil god and created the Carrion purely out of spite of the “perfect races” the other gods made. All the original abilities of the Carrion are made to be as abhorred and gruesome as possible, but most of those abilities have been lost to time and evolution

The culture and home of the Carrion

not much is known about their culture and how they interact with each other, the only thing known is that they have a constant urge to kill which causes them to go towards evil often, and they also have an even larger urge to kill when in the presence of another carrion parasite. when two carrions meet, they are soul bound to fight each other to prove who is the stronger of the two and to filter out the weak among the race which is most likely the reason there are so few of their race and why there has been no city inhabited mostly by carrion. The carrion race operates on something called "sword logic". sword logic is a system of thought that says only the strong deserve to live. this means whenever they defeat someone, they are worth more than the defeated. therefore, the defeated should at the least be completely subservient to the stronger of the two. This also means anyone who survives one of these fights are now obligated to offer up tribute to the victor and give their power to the victor. however, they are not soul bound to kill each other only to fight each other and the carrion are not soul bound to be completely subservient to the victor either it is just deemed culturally necessary to do so and any Carrion not found doing this is shunned from what little society they have

The birth of new Carrion and the ritual that follows

a carrion parasite at birth has is soul bound to come to a designated location known only to other carrion parasites to reproduce at the age of 250. they will then take off exactly half of their total flesh at the time and the two masses will combine and be planted into the ground. then, after 250 years the seed will sprout and be fully grown and will then release all 500 eggs on the tree and all the parasites will disperse and latch onto organisms and grow in power for 50 years, then they will come back to their birthplace and fight their siblings that grew on the same tree. after that, the surviving parasites will consume their dead siblings to gain their power and strengthen their souls, and then wander the earth which ensures only the strongest of the generation are the ones who pass on their DNA. gathering power which is the goal of all carrion parasites.

Carrion Traits

The pride of the Carrion is their mindset of being better than all races due to flexibility and overall strength. This pride comes from the fact that most carrion have never lost a battle and losing a battle would strip their rights as a living being away.

Ability Score Increase.

Your intelligence score increases by 2 and your Wisdom score increases by 1

Age.

Carrion reach full maturity at 250 years of age and do not age afterwords

Alignment.

Carrion parasites reach possess an innate urge to kill which can only be suppressed by an extremely tough mind. They also have a Malthusian ideal of survival of the fittest which they call “sword logic”. This urge to kill is enforced even further in the presence of another Carrion with all their killing intent being directed towards the other Carrion in their presence. this causes them to be swayed towards the evil side of the spectrum more often than not

Size.

Carrion in base form is very small at only 3 inches in height being very slug-like, you can takeover any size of creature

Speed.

Carrion on their own have a speed of only 5 feet but their speed while attached to a host match that of the host’s.

Parasite

As a base Carrion parasite, you have only 1 hit point which does not increase with class levels. Alone you are vulnerable and weak being able to only use magic that is psychic based.

To enter a host, use an action and choose a creature to be your host that is also within your reach. If the creature is above 10% of its maximum hit points, host takeover is impossible, if the creature is below 10% health, then it must succeed a 1d8 wisdom saving throw + their wisdom modifier. On a failed save you successfully take full control over its body and the original person is suspended until the parasite ejects itself

While you are in control, you gain access to all of the host's features except for class features, background features, feats, and other features not innately part of the host's body. You use the host's Strength, Dexterity and Constitution scores, but your own Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma.

While inside the host’s body, you as the parasite are immune to all damaging effects. Whenever your host is reduced to 0 hit points, any excess damage is transferred over to you, this can reduce you to 0 hit points or just outright kill you

At anytime you can use a reaction to eject yourself from your host, instantly giving the host full control over its body. If you use this reaction at the moment the host is reduced to 0 hit points, you must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 10 or half the damage the host took: whichever is higher) or fail to eject yourself in time and take any excess damage.

Racial ability takeover

At any time, you can consume the body of a dead person and you can takeover one of their racial abilities. If you want to takeover another ability then you must first discard the first ability to use the second one. in proportion to the percentage of the body you have eaten (the amount of time it takes you to do this is to the DM's discretion) you will gain a higher chance of successfully taking over a racial ability, in order to successfully taking over a racial ability you must first consume a minimum of 60% of their body, then roll 1d4, on a 1 you successfully takeover their ability, if you eat 70% of their body you succeed on a 2 or a 1 on 1d4, 80% is successful on 1, 2, or 3 and so on. the ability you takeover is to the DM's discretion and you cannot take over legendary abilities or abilities that require body parts that the character does not possess.
