Homebrew Bladeborn Species Details
A second chance, life after death, a soul inhabiting a vessel of metal and bloodshed. The bladeborn are an odd race, with none of them originating as one, instead they are given a second chance of life after death, whether it be through loyalty of a god, an unspecific pact with a demon, a genie wish gone wrong, or some other happenstance. With vivid memories of life and the ability to puppet the dead it's very common for bladeborn to take up some role of violence, whether it be good or evil.

Living Weapon, Necrotic Puppetry, Second Chance, Inanimate Durability, Creature Type, Darkvision, Languages, Ability Score IncreaseLiving Weapon
During character creation, you can pick any weapon to be as long as you have proficiency with it in life and death, the weapon you are cannot be changed, attacks with this weapon count as magical for the purposes of overcoming resistance and immunity, you can change the enchantment on the weapon by attuning to another weapon with an enchantment, you can only have one enchantment at a time.
You do not have any free hands, so you cannot do a majority of things that require a free hand, but you can shove and attack with the weapon you are without a wielder/puppet.
As a living weapon, you do not have a walking speed, instead you have a 10 foot flying speed as long as you are not puppeteering.
Necrotic Puppetry
As an action you can puppet a corpse within 5ft of you, said corpse cannot be a construct, when you puppet a corpse your movement speeds change to the movement speed and size of the corpse when it was alive and any damage the corpse takes transfers to you
The corpse has the same stats as you as long as you puppet it, no matter if it lowers or raises a stat that the corpse originally had
Puppeteering does not stop a corpse from decaying, it just makes it more bearable to be around, after five times the corpse's max health in damage is taken or a week passes, the corpse decays past usefulness, halving the movement speed, strength, and dexterity of it, the only way to stop it from being halved is to stop puppeteering the corpse, whether you puppet a new one or just go back to being a floating weapon
The puppeteering ends if you choose to do so as an action, or if you are more than 30 feet away from the corpse for a minute
Second Chance
This is not your first life, you have died before and are somewhat better at resisting it, once per short rest you can give yourself advantage on death saving throws until you get back up.
Inanimate Durability
Being brought back to life as a weapon has the following benefits:
- You have advantage on saving throws against being poisoned, and you have resistance to poison damage.
- You don’t need to eat, drink, or breathe.
- You are immune to disease.
- You don't need to sleep, and magic can't put you to sleep.
Creature Type
You are a construct when not puppeteering a corpse, and an undead when puppeteering a corpse, healing spells that do not work on constructs and undeads still can heal but they cannot bring above 75% health
Darkvision
Being a creature that sees with magic instead of eyes, you have darkvision out to 60 feet
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice.
Ability Score Increase
