Homebrew Three-Quarterlings Species Details

Three Quarterlings

To speak on behalf of the Three Quarterlings, I have hired a great sage. I have been told he is an expert on the races of faerun and beyond, and that he absolutely loves teaching and answering questions. Please welcome, Sage Griggorious The Imperturbable!

What is this? I was told I would be writing not doing public speaking! Their better still be cookies for me after this, or I swear you will be hearing from my guild! Anyway, I suppose this is the best place to begin. Errrrrrrr-Hemmmmm!

Half Human and Half Halfling

Not as absurd as you might be thinking, think to the fact that an OGRE can procreate with a human. I mean humans can breed with pretty much anything, and are willing to most of the time! Three Quarterlings are actually all over the realms, they are just easy to mistake. You either assume they are a short human or a tall halfling. I am willing to bet that most of you know at least one, check your short friends. I bet they have really hairy feet, or perhaps they shave their feet! Either way, definitely a three quarterling!

Who are they?

Well good question, dear reader! They are what their environment makes of them. often taking after their human heritage or halfling heritage as it suits them. They tend to take after their halfling side in spirit and nature, generally ending up as a cheerful spirited folk. Though with most of the races of the realms they can end up having some deviancy. Also with any half race, sometimes they feel like they don't fit in with either. Sometimes they end up feeling like they need to prove themselves, or end up with wanderlust as they try to find their place in the world.

What are they called?

Well how could i know that? I mean, i have met a few, but to ask a question like that..... The ones i met carried similar names and name structures to humans, and sometimes to halflings. I suppose they take after the fathers side, be he halfling or human. Try to ask more reasonable questions, its not like im a god or anything.

Where do they fit into Faerun?

This is your last question! These are a bit too hard for this old historian, but I will answer as best i can. I think that most Three Quarterlings just want acceptance, they will do their best to fit into whichever setting they were raised in. Be it with humans or with halflings. They will act like a human or like a halfling, respectively, to fit in with their surroundings. Honestly, i cant blame them, no one wants to be an outsider. Well thats all i have time for today! Perhaps I'll let you in on a different race some other time. But only if you dont bother me with difficult questions!

Three-Quarterlings Traits

Three Quarterlings have a bit of both sides of their parentage for traits.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 1 and your Charisma is increased by 1.

Age

A three-quarterling reaches adulthood around 20 years old and generally lives to be about 150.

Alignment

Three-quarterlings tend to take after their human heritage in alignment, and so they vary. It is more common to find good and lawful good three-quarterlings, but they reach the other side of the spectrum as well. Though rarely are they found to be chaotic.

Size

Three Quarterlings average at about four and half to 5 feet tall.. Your size is small.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 25 feet.

Lucky or Just Skilled?

When you roll a 1 on the d20 for an attack roll, or Skill check. you can reroll the die and must use the new roll. The three-Quarterlings take after both of their parent races. They have a bit of the halfling luck, but not quite as strong. However they do take after the human side as well in their natural skill. Whereas they do not get the extra aptitude, they do get to mix their luck and skills a bit.

Just Tall Enough

You have advantage on roles where you are attempting to pass yourself off as a human or a halfling. Often the best way to survive as a half breed is to pretend that you are not. A skill that three-Quarterlings are very adept at.

Half As Tall

You are bigger than a halfling, but noticeably smaller than humans. You are able to treat yourself as a medium size character when it is advantageous. Except for when determining racial size bonuses. This ability does allow the three quarterlings to wield medium sized weapons if they desire to.

Half of Both

When you choose feats pertaining to race, you are counted as both human and halfling. 

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Halfling. The Halfling language isn’t secret, but halflings are loath to share it with others. They write very little, so they don’t have a rich body of literature. Their oral tradition, however, is very strong. Almost all halflings speak Common to converse with the people in whose lands they dwell or through which they are traveling.
