Homebrew Awakened Rock Species Details

You were just sitting there, being a rock - you had no desires, no hopes, no shame and no fear - when, for some bizarre purpose, someone or something gave you sentience. What reason would someone have for doing such a thing? That's for them and god to know.

Now you wonder the world with what little mobility has been granted to you, searching for purpose to your new-found existence.

Awakened Rock Traits

As a rock, you have the following racial traits.

Creature Type

You are a construct.

Size

You are Medium or Small. You choose the size when you select this race.

Speed

Your walking speed is 25 feet.

Rocks for Hands

You have rocks for hands that you can use to make unarmed strikes. When you hit with them, the strike deals 1d6 + your Strength modifier bludgeoning damage, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.

Mineral Nature

Being a sentient rock, you gain the following benefits:

  • You don't need to eat, sleep or breathe and you are immune to magical effects that put you to sleep. To gain the benefits of a long rest, you can spend 4 hours motionless, contemplating the meaning of your existence, during which time you can be in your rock mode.
  • You're resistant to poison damage and you have advantage on Constitution saving throws to resist being poisoned

Rocks for Skin

Your rocks provide you a base AC of 17 (your Dexterity modifier doesn’t affect this number). You can’t wear light, medium, or heavy armor, but if you are using a shield, you can apply the shield’s bonus as normal.

Rock Mode

You can enter your rock mode as an action. Until you emerge, you gain a +4 bonus to your AC, and you have advantage on Strength and Constitution saving throws and on Dexterity(Stealth) checks made to conceal yourself as a rock. While in your rock mode, you are prone, your speed is 0 and can’t increase, you have disadvantage on Dexterity saving throws, you can’t take reactions, and the only action you can take is a bonus action to emerge from your shell.
