Homebrew Vulpine Species Details

Once thought to be a myth, Vulpine are a secretive race. Rarely seen, Vulpine tend to stay within their communities out in the natural world. They have an affinity towards nature, magic, and mischief - a trait reminiscent of their fey heritage.

Foxkin

Commonly referred to as foxfolk, Vulpine share many features with their namesake. Slender and agile, Vulpine stand between three and five feet tall, and often weigh between fifty and eighty pounds. While most possess the characteristic red coat, some clans can be found with black, gray, or even white.

One of the Clan

Vulpine associate almost exclusively with other members of their clan. While they follow a strict hierarchy and order within their community - mischief aside - other clans and outsiders are often viewed as competition. This being the case, Vulpine found venturing beyond their community often prefer to work alone, going as far as stealing and taking advantage of others.

One of Many

Vulpine typically are not found alone. If one is found without its clan, it is likely it has either been exiled or sent to complete some sort of task. Regardless, Vulpine are fiercely loyal to any companions they may gain on their journey, often fighting tooth and nail for their newfound allies.

One of the Self

Vulpine consider names to be reminiscent of the owner's defining traits. Many will take on several names over the course of a lifetime. Names given at birth are typically centered around nature or events surrounding their birth. A notable exception is when a member is exiled from the clan, after which they are considered nameless by their former clan. Exiled Vulpine often decide their own new name, choosing not to follow the naming conventions they previously knew.
