Homebrew Dimogen Species Details

Created in the distant future by an unknown parent race, the dimogen are semi-organic humanoids with distinctly draconic features, built for the purpose of waging war. Due to a temporal anomaly, a number of dimogen have been transported to the present day and are stranded, out of their element in a comparatively primitive world.

Dimogen are formed from a blend of organic and inorganic materials. The amount of organic material making up the body of a dimogen can vary significantly, ranging from 50% all the way down to the rare 1%. They possess sharp claws, tails which end in a singular large spike, and durable metal wings which can't (usually) be used for flight but which can be quickly deployed as a temporary protective shield. Most dimogen colors include black main and red eyes and tail flairs with orange body flairs, but in rare occasions there can be light colors on a dimogen like blue and white. Dimogen teeth each have two points, allowing for extra penetration and severing power which, alongside their powerful jaws, enables them to puncture and break strong materials.

Dimogen tend to be aggressive and protective, though this can vary depending on the conditions the dimogen has been in. Dimogen don't usually have specified genders but a small amount of higher class dimogen do have assigned genders.

Dimogen Traits

Your dimogen character has the following traits.

Ability Score Increase

One ability score of your choice increases by 2, and another ability score of your choice increases by 1. Alternatively, three different ability scores of your choice increase by 1.

Age

In the time they originate from, dimogen are a very recent invention. They are typically between one and thirty years old. The maximum dimogen lifespan remains a mystery; so far, dimogen have shown no signs of deterioration due to age. You are immune to magical aging effects.

Size

Dimogen are typically between 6'6" and 7'0" and average about 240 lbs. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision

Dimogen eyes are mechanical in nature and enhanced to see a broad range of spectra. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Artificial Construction

You were created to have remarkable fortitude, represented by the following benefits:

  • You have advantage on saving throws against being poisoned, and you have resistance to poison damage.
  • You don’t need to eat or drink organic material for sustenance (although you can for pleasure). Instead, you need to consume an equivalent amount of metals, minerals, and ores.
  • You are immune to disease.
  • You can hold your breath for up to an hour.

Glide

When you fall at least 10 feet above the ground, you can use your reaction to extend your wings to glide horizontally a number of feet equal to your walking speed, and you take 0 damage from the fall. You determine the direction of the glide.

Dimogen Variation

At 3rd level, you have gained enough experience to activate a activate a previously dormant part of your programming. You can choose between one of the three options below:

Arm Cannon. Turns out, you have a cannon built into your arm! As an action you can fire an explosive shell at a creature within 60 feet of you. Make a ranged weapon attack roll. On a hit, the target takes 1d8 piercing damage. Regardless of whether the attack hits or misses, the shell detonates in a 5 foot radius around the target. Creatures in the area must make a Dexterity saving throw or take 1d8 fire damage. The radius of the explosion increases to 10 feet at 6th level, 15 feet at 11th level, and 20 feet at 16th level. You can use this ability once per long rest.

Enhanced Wings. Your wings are extended to become capable of swift flight. You have a flying speed of 35 feet while you aren’t wearing heavy armor. Using the Wing Defense ability while in flight causes you to fall until the start of your next turn.

Tail Lash. As an action, you can swing your hooked tail, which can extend out to a range of 15 feet and latch onto a target. The target must succeed on a Strength saving throw (save DC: 8 + proficiency bonus + Constitution modifier) or take 1d8 piercing damage and be pulled 10 feet in a straight line toward you.

Wing Defense

Your wings are designed for protection as well as mobility. As a reaction when you are hit by an attack, you can wrap your wings around yourself to guard against the attack, adding 4 to your AC for that attack and potentially causing it to miss you. You can use this ability once per long rest.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Dimogen. The Dimogen language is mostly made of clicks, grinding, and other mechanical noises that can be quite difficult for organic creatures to replicate.
