Homebrew Demigod Species Details

Demigods, also known as half-bloods, are the result of humans having children with the gods. Many influential people throughout history have been demigods, as demigods are destined for greatness. Demigods produce a smell that many monsters are able to smell to identify them as having godly ancestry; before demigods know they have godly ancestry, this smell is responsible for monsters finding them in the mortal world. Once demigods discover they have godly blood, either by being found by friendly guardians, such as satyrs or centaurs, or by being attacked by monsters, they often make their way to safe havens composed of other demigods, such as Camp Half-Blood in Long Island, New York or Camp Jupiter in San Francisco, California. It is at these safe havens that many demigods train to fulfill their destinies as histories greatest heroes.

Demigod Traits

Although many of their individual abilities are based on their Olympian ancestry, there are some abilities that are ubiquitous among all half-bloods.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Celestial. Demigods learn the dialect of Common that is spoken in the country they are born in the mortal world. Because of their Olympian ancestry, demigods' brains are wired to read Ancient Greek and Latin. As a result, most demigods are diagnosed with dyslexia, therefore, when attempting to read Common, demigods take twice as long unless they pass a DC 12 Intelligence check.

Age

Demigods reach adulthood in their late teens. Because of their Olympian ancestry, they are able to live longer than most humans, up to two to three hundred years. However, due to their often dangerous lifestyles, few demigods live past their thirties.

Size

Demigods vary widely in height and build, from barely 5 feet to well over 6 feet tall. Regardless of your position in that range, your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Ability Score Increase

Your ability scores each increase by 1.

Battle Instincts

Due to their brains and reactions being wired for battle and always looking for the next threat, most demigods are diagnosed with ADHD. This provides them with the ability to be more perceptive on battlefield and makes it harder for enemies to gain the element of surprise.

  • You are proficient in Perception; if another ability would give you proficiency, you instead gain expertise.
  • If a creature attacking you would cause you to be under the surprised condition, at the beginning of your turn, you may roll a D20: on a 1-9, you remain under the surprised condition; on a 10-20, the surprised condition ends.

Clear Sight

Due to your Olympian ancestry, you have the ability to see through the Mist and know things as they truly are. You gain the following benefits:

  • You get advantage on Investigation checks to determine if illusions are real or not.
  • You may give yourself advantage on one Perception or Investigation check. You must finish a short rest before you can use this ability again.
  • When you make a Perception or Investigation check, if the result is higher than the spell save DC of a spellcaster who has cast Invisibility or Greater Invisibility, you are able to see the target of the spell.

Olympian Scent

Because of your Olympian ancestry, you have a tendency to attract the attention of magical creatures.

  • Magical, non-humanoid creatures have advantage on Wisdom (Survival) checks to track you via scent.

Godly Gifts

As demigods become stronger, they begin to unlock powers and abilities gifted to them from their Olympian parent.

  • At levels 1, 4, 8, 12, and 16, along with your ability score improvement or feat, you gain abilities based on your Olympian ancestry. See Godly Gifts table for more information.
