Homebrew Doll Species Details

A soldier bravely throws himself in front of his allies, taking the impact of a warhammer. Cracks form across his body, and he stumbles backwards as his allies surge forward. He kneels, magic glowing around his hands, and the cracks begin to seal, healing the damage he had taken.

A dragon rains fire from above, and a mage stands stalwart, impervious to the roaring flame. Heat emanates from their porcelain skin as tendrils of earth reach up to drag the beast down from the sky, binding it to the earth below.

Dolls are a species made by artificial means - generally by that of a magic user who can't or won't venture outside. They may have thoughts of their own, or they may be directly controlled by the one who gave them life. But dolls are never truly free of their makers' influence, as the magic that fuels them stems from another. Due to this, however, they can never truly die - though shattered, through powerful magic, even the most shattered of Dolls will be returned to their former state. Dolls are generally made out of a hard material, such as porcelain, ceramics, or clay, as these materials are the best organic materials for sustaining magical life.

Doll Traits

Dolls share similarities in their makeup, due to similarities in the processes of their creation.

Inhuman Constitution

Being constructs means that dolls have no reason to eat, drink or breathe, though you still can if you'd like. They also have resistance to Poison damage and are immune to disease. When you reach 0 HP, you don’t make saving throws, and instead are unable to take actions or move until someone casts Mending on you (treat it like a Spare the Dying spell). You cannot die by traditional means, but healing spells are useless until your body is restored.

Mindless Creation

Dolls were created by someone, meaning that their will is never really their own. Bearing this in mind, they have resistance to Psychic damage, and they cannot be charmed or put to sleep by any means.

Temperate Framework

The extreme temperatures that dolls are made at has given you a resistance to Fire damage. Because they are heated at these temperatures, their bodies will stay superheated for a bit longer than you would expect. When hit by Fire damage, you can add 1d6 Fire damage to your next attack.

Brittle Body

Due to the brittle nature of their makeup, damage done to a doll can be repaired with the Mending cantrip. However, having delicate skin causes them to have a vulnerability to Piercing and Bludgeoning damage.

Unblinking Eyes

Dolls do not need rest, and sleep is optional for them. They only need 4 hours a night to enter a dreamlike state where they repair all wounds, restore spell slots, or regain other character abilities.

Ability Score Increase

Your Intelligence increases by 2, and your Constitution increases by 1. Alternatively, raise any 3 stats by +1, or one stat by +2, and another by +1.

Darkvision

Dolls' eyes are not plagued by darkness like a humans' would be. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Size

Dolls can be constructed as human sized, or slightly smaller. Your size is Small or Medium.

Age

Dolls do not age. You will look the same as the day you were created for as long as you are alive.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 25 feet.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and one extra language of your choice. Dolls are usually given the ability to speak another language by their creators, in the event that Common is not sufficient.
