Homebrew Dark Fey Species Details
Sequestered in high mountains atop tall trees, the dark fey, sometimes categorized as fairies, evoke fear and wonder. Many dark fey aren’t even native to the Material Plane. They hail from the magical moors, and are the descendants of a great phoenix.
They are immigrants, refugees, scouts, and explorers, their outposts functioning as footholds in a land both strange and alien.
Dark Fey Traits
As a dark fey, you have certain traits in common with your people. Being able to fly at high speed starting at 1st level is exceptionally effective in certain circumstances and exceedingly dangerous in others. As a result, playing an dark fey requires special consideration by your DM.Age
Dark fey mature at the rate of humans, but can live up to 600 Years
Alignment
Most dark fey tend to be good in nature, and chaos is not outside their norm. Some may turn towards evil if wronged and shown cruelty by their non-dark fey neighbours.
Size
Dark fey are any average height of a human. They vary in muscle mass and height. Your size is Medium.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common, Sylvan and one other language of your choice
Flight
You pull your wings from the plane of Paragonia. Doing so you gain a 50ft flying speed but you cannot be wearing medium or heavy armor.
Proficiencies
Coming from Paragonia and being a Dark Fey, life had its highs and lows, and as such skills are fostered. Choose any Two Proficiencies.
Fey Ancestry
You have advantage on saving throws against being charmed, and magic can’t put you to sleep.
Trance
Fey don’t need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.
