Homebrew Descriar Species Details

If Spectators are descendant of Beholders, then Descriars are descendant of Spectators. These aberrant humanoids are recognized by a single long eyestalk sprouted from the back of their head like a ponytail. Descriars tend to be a curiosity in the cities, although their aberrant nature means they are shunned in the eyes of races who despise aberrations such as gith or duergar, who view them as abominations. For this reason, Descriars tend to disguise their eye stalk in public, and wear long sleeves and gloves to hide the scales that cover their arms and shoulders. it is unknown how the Descriars were made. Most common folk believe it was from a union between a number of beholders and groups of common humanoid races such as humans, elves and tieflings. some spellcasters believe they were created in a similar manner to spectators. But the most widely accepted theory among those who have studied beholders is that the Descriars were simply dreamed into existence. Descriars have limited psionic potential, including various eye rays both psionic and arcane, but their dreams hold no sway over reality, and they are no more power-hungry or paranoid than any other race.

Descriar Traits

Descriars are an aberrant folk descended from beholders, sharing traits with both them and spectators.

Eyestalk

Like the beholders you are descended from, you have an innate connection to both arcane and psionic magic. however, you only have the one eyestalk. This one eyestalk is enough though, as you can see around corners, herness your arcane magic into rays from your eye inherently, and can do so with any ray-like spell you learn.

Monster Type

You are an Aberration.

Psionic Eye Rays

On top of the arcane rays you already possess, you gain access to 3 rays that instead draw upon your psionic potential, one to render magic useless, one to cleanse your allies of their afflictions, and one to stop your foes in their tracks for a brief moment.

Darkvision

Another trait from your Beholder ancestors, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60ft of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray
