Homebrew Dire Wolf Shifter Species Details

The Dire Wolf pack Gow has developed a means to shapeshift in order to better defend and speak for the lands they inhabit.

Dire Wolf form (Hispo): Their natural form, is where they feel the most comfortable.

  • The Hispo is the massive wolf of nightmare, a throwback to prehistoric days when the dire wolves were the size of ponies. It is a form designed to hunt – and to kill

Hybrid/Wolfwere form (Crinos): is an empowered form to destroy and keep at bay enemies of the lands and pack.

  • The Crinos form is the true battle form of the Gow pack, the form they take when no solution save violence will do. A hybrid of human and dire wolf, infused with the superhuman strength of this warrior race, the Crinos is one of the most efficient killing machines in the world. Humans suffer such terrifying ancestral memories when witnessing an angry Crinos that they often break down into hysterics, forcing themselves to forget that such a monster exists.

'Humanoid' Form (Glabro): is a more approachable form adopted by the Gows evolution to be able to communicate with the outside world

  • The Glabro form  draws on a portion of the werewolf's true power. Stronger, faster and more resilient than Humans, the Glabro form is still just a shadow of the werewolf's true killing power. Your form is tabaxi-like in nature; donning the facial structure of a wolf with a smaller snout and a build that is smaller and leaner than your Crinos form with short fur.

Dire Wolf Shifter Traits

Hispo(Dire Wolf), Crinos(Hybrid), and Glabro('Human') Form Traits

Pack Tactics

The wolf has advantage on an attack roll against a creature if at least one of the wolf's allies is within 5 ft. of the creature and the ally isn't incapacitated.

Wolf Vision

You have the superior vision of a wolf. Which means that in dark and dim conditions, you can see in dim light within 120 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, and you only see in shades of gray.

Keen Senses

You have advantages on Perception &  Athletics Checks because your wolf senses heighten your smell and hearing.

Naturally Stealthy

You gain proficiency in Stealth and can take the Disengage or Hide action as a bonus action on each of your turns

Bloodlust

While you can control your form most days, During intense battles and on the night of the full moon, the beast within you swells. At the start of the night of a full moon you must make a DC16 Wisdom saving throw and during battles you must make a DC10 Wisdom saving throw (on a success you gain control. On a failure you give in to your animalistic urges) or you will transform into a frenzied version of your hybrid form. During this time, the DM has control over what your character does; however every turn you may re-roll your saving throw to take back control (If caused by intense Battle and fail saving throws. Each time you re-roll the DC increases by 1 until a maximum of 20). Once you make the saving throw, you retain control for the rest of the night.

Silver Weakness

You are vulnerable to silvered weapons in all forms. But you are resistant to being poisoned and immune to Disease as well.

Ability Scores

Each of you scores increase by Strength +1, Dexterity +1, Constitution +1, Charisma -1
