Homebrew Black Sun Vampire Species Details

Black Sun Vampires are both very similar yet very different to their typical counterparts. They are born from a ritual, one where a mortal pulls their heart from their chest and offers it to one of the few Relics of the Black Sun within the Known World. The relic they offered their heart to then brings them back, granting them it's blessing and it's curse.  The best known group of these Vampires are the Order of the Night Sun, originating from the fallen kingdom of Eoryn.

Black Sun Vampires are weaker than the typical vampire, with fewer special powers and abilities, but they also lack most of the weaknesses.

Black Sun Vampire Traits

These are the traits you have as a Black Sun Vampire

Black Sun's Curse

Following ritualistically offering their heart to a Black Sun Relic, a creature's life and soul are no longer their own. They now have the following traits:

- Following offering their heart to the relic and getting revived, the vampire's alignment instantly becomes evil. Their other alignment, such as lawful, chaotic, or neutral remain normal.

- Whenever the vampire reaches 0 hit points and fails all their death saves the vampire does not cease, but is instead drawn back the the relic they offered their heart to. There the relic forcefully revives them, creating an exact clone of their body at half their max hit points and without 1d4 days of their most recent memories. This can only be prevented by destruction of the vampire's soul, which can be done with certain magic items and spells. Other items that would try and absorb or catch the vampire's soul fail to do so.

- Any spells that reveal magic such as Detect Magic, unless the vampire is wearing an item that obscures magic cast on them or prevents scrying, reveal a tether of enchantment and necromancy attached to the vampire that drifts off into the distance, eventually leading back to the Black Sun Relic.

- Any effects that would dispel curses or magic have no effect on the Black Sun's Curse. Only powers that can twist reality itself such as the Wish spell can break the curse upon the vampire. Doing so does not cause them to age, but they will still die.

- These traits are only active if the Black Sun Relic the vampire is associated with is unbroken. If the relic is ever destroyed, a task that proves difficult for most, all vampires connected to it are forced to roll a d100, and on any number below 100 cease to exist, their bodies petrifying into a black, crystalline substance.
