Homebrew Wendigo deer folk Species Details

Second Form

Cryptid hybrids have learned to tap into the non cryptid side of themselves, gaining two forms; one where their cryptid features and powers are revealed, and one where they look like any other race. This has helped them to live among others with relative ease, not everyone will take seeing a monster well.

Unknown Origins

The reason why or how you exist is a mystery even to yourself, this has led half cryptids to search for a reason, a justification, an answer to why they exist, only to find nothing and give up.

Mysterious Beings

Thanks to their second form cryptid hybrids aren’t as known as their cousins the full cryptids. But this doesn’t mean you can show your true form without a care, most people can’t tell a half cryptid from a full one, but they treat them all the same.

Cryptid Hybrid Traits

Cryptids share multiple traits in common with each other.

Second Form.

In your second form you keep your cryptid Ability Score Increases but nothing else. Switching between forms is easy and takes only a few seconds.

Age.

Cryptids live much older than any other beings, but not being full cryptid you live half as much. Half cryptids reach maturity by 150 years and live up to 800 years.

Alignment.

Half cryptids usually mind their own business, giving them a more neutral demeanor. Although some cryptids have been known to be somewhat evil.

Size.

Half cryptids vary in sizes depending on their cryptid half, but are usually 1 to 2 feet shorter and weigh 50 to 100 pounds less in their second form.

Speed.

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision.

Living in the darkness you have superior vision and dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Languages.

You can speak, read, and write Common and Cryptish (Deep Speech). Cryptish is language spoken only by the cryptids and is extremely hard to learn as it varies from cryptid to cryptid.

Subrace.

There are six subraces of cryptid hybrid: Bigfoot, Chupacabra, Jersey Devil, Loch Ness Monster, Mothman, and Wendigo. Choose one of these subraces. In your first form you halfway take on the looks and abilities of a Wendigo, growing horns, becoming tall and hunched over, while the skull of an animal becomes your head. Wendigos twist the heart and mind of races to the point of cannibalism, they are a dark omen, seeing one outside of a town usually means the death of it.

Ability Score Increase.

Your Wisdom and Charisma scores increase by one.

Size.

In your first form are 6 to 7 feet tall and weigh between 170 and 210 pounds. Your size is medium.

Twist.

Once per long rest you can persuade people to cannibalize. By making a Charisma (Persuasion) check the target must make a Wisdom saving throw equaling 10 plus your Charisma (Persuasion) modifier, on a fail you drive them 1d4 more insane. When they reach 5 insane they lose 1 Intelligence and Wisdom, when they reach 8 insane they lose 2 more Intelligence and Wisdom, finally when they reach 10 insane they lose all Intelligence and Wisdom and begin to eat anything that moves. On a successful save they are now immune to being twisted.

Telepathy.

You can speak telepathically to creatures.
