Living Gems
The crystalites are a race most noted for the wild variance in appearance and ability. All at once beautiful and terrible, these beings of arcane origin do not form societies of their own and have no spoken language. Due to their enormous size and useful abilities, it is not uncommon to find crystalite held as slaves, especially in dwarf, gnome, and halfling societies.
Crystalite Personality
Crystalites, though their crystalline forms may not immediately convey sentience, possess a curious and evolving nature. Patient individuals who invest time and care can forge deep bonds with these rare beings. Some Crystalites exhibit an acute sensitivity to magic, making them enigmatic entities that only a select few dare approach. Those who successfully attune with them often gain profound insights into their own identities.
Among Crystalites, the hard-bodied individuals are renowned for their wild and assertive demeanor. Their natural temperament, once harnessed, makes them ideal for various roles, ranging from labor-intensive tasks to serving as formidable bodyguards for the elite nobility. Some are even bestowed as prestigious gifts to famed kings or queens, acting as vigilant sentries and guardians. The complex interplay between their magical essence and their wild traits creates a fascinating spectrum of personalities within the Crystalite community.
Varied race
Owing to their structure made of stone or gems, crystalites vary widely in appearance, most notably in color. This color determines much about their lives, including which societies will value them and what their abilities will be. Most crystalites are tall and slender but have also been known to take on stout forms.
Creation process
Crystalites can be created through a unique alchemical process that infuses gem clusters with arcane magic. The conditions during this process determine the crystalites characteristics. Liquid substances with magical properties serve as the foundation for their creation.
Quirks
Crystalites often display an odd personality trait or two, given how new they are to the world. The crystalite Quirks table contains example quirks.

Arcane Origins
The first crystalites emerged when a dwarven expedition discovered a hidden mine filled with magical gems. A colossal humanoid figure, known as the Primordial Gem, was found at the heart of the cluster. Dwarven miners, marveling at its magic-wielding abilities, named it the crystalites, eventually giving rise to the crystalite race.
Originally created as sentries and laborers, some crystalites gained sentience over time. While many remained loyal to their dwarven overlords, a few rebelled, choosing the path of nomadism and independence.
