Automatons can be created in basically any way. A bird makes a deal with a god to be put into a big 'ol metal suit. A hampster wants to spread its figurative legs and find adventure. A piranha wishes to spread its evil beyond its body of water. Imagination is a wild thing (hell, I though this up).
