Homebrew Boar Folk Species Details

The Boar Folk hail from The Lost Continent, a large chunk of land lost for thousands of years. The Boar Folk are a tribal people, usually living in small communities, with their daily lives spent scavenging from forgotten cities and towns in the area. Being the only sentient creatures on The Forgotten Continent, anything is fair game for them, there aren't any other races to get into conflict with, but this also means trusting outsiders can be very hard.

Short but Stocky

The Boar Folk are humanoid looking in nature, but with short stature and a fat/muscle build. Most of their body is covered in small fine fur, with it getting thicker around the ear area, they have small beady eyes and a snout with tusks protruding from the mouth. The skin of The Boar Folk is darkish in colour, which makes it hard to see where the fur begins.

Quarrelsome

The Boar Folk are quite quarrelsome in nature, always arguing with others, the argument could be over something as small as a scavenged dagger found in a lost armoury, if a Boar Folk see something they like, they will try and get it any way possible. Although this type of behaviour would fit well with a thief, The Boar Folk never steal, once a scavenged item is rightfully claimed by another, they will go no further, as much as it pains them to see it go. The Boar Folk philosophy is that any piece of scrap is fair game, but once it has been claimed, it is no longer scrap.

One common trait found in all the Boar Folk tribes is that speaking, writing, reading or learning common is frowned upon.

Boar folk society is usually run by older women and men, due to the younger ones going off to scavenge.

Boar Folk names are given at birth, there are no family names that are passed down, some members may gain titles such as "The scavenger", small titles that wouldn't really mean much in the common world.

The Boar Folk have generally long life spans, living up to 80 years old. A Boar Folk usually starts scavenging around 15 years of age.

Alignment

The Boar Folk tend not to pick sides, due to them being the only sentient species on The Lost Continent they tend to be quite Neutral, depending on the tribe, the Boar Folk can also either be Chaotic, Evil or Good.

Size

The average height of The Boar Folk tend to be around 5ft, there are some cases where some members have been 5'4, but this is rare.

Speed

The Average walking speed of a Boar Folk is 25 feet.

Darkvision

Being used to the thick forests, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Due to your experience scavenging, you get an advantage on all investigation rolls.

Using an action, you may make an attack from 30 ft away that closes the gap and inflicts 3d4s of piercing damage, however, if the attack fails you receive a 1d4 of bludgeoning damage. Only available once per short rest
