Homebrew Azer Species Details

Azer

Tracing their ancestry to the fires of the Elemental Planes, each Azer can tap into the power of their flame.

A typical Azer has a life span of 1000 years.

Creating Your Character

At 1st level, you choose whether your character is a member of the human race or of a fantastical race. If you select a fantastical race, follow these additional rules during character creation.

Ability Score Increases

Your Strength and Constitution scores increase by 2.

Languages

Your character can speak, read, and write Common, Ignan, and one other language that you and your DM agree is appropriate for the character. The Player’s Handbook offers a list of languages to choose from. The DM is free to modify that list for a campaign.

Creature Type

You are Humanoid.

Life Span

Azer's have been known to live as long as 1000 years with proper upkeep.

Height and Weight

Azer's typically weigh around 400lbs. If you’d like to determine your character’s height randomly, consult the Random Height and Weight table in the Player’s Handbook, and choose the row in the table that best represents the build you imagine for your character.

Azer Traits

As an Azer, you gain the following traits.

Creature Type

You are a Humanoid.

Size

You are a Medium sized creature.

Speed

Your walking speed is 30 feet.

Fiery Constitution

Beneath your bronze body, you are a being of fire. You have advantage on saving throws against poison, resistance to poison damage, and are immune to fire.

Illumination

Your head is wreathed in flames, creating bright light in a 10-ft radius around you and an additional 10-ft of dim light beyond that. This makes stealth difficult for you, giving you disadvantage on stealth checks requiring sight. You may call upon the fire within yourself to light the way for other; you can cast the “Light” cantrip at will.

Natural Armor

Your body is made of hardened bronze which provides an inherent protection. While unarmored, your AC equals 13 + your CON modifier + any shield you may be wielding.

Heated Body

Your body is burning hot to the touch. When a creature within 5-ft of you hits you with a melee attack, it takes 1d4 fire damage. This increases to 2d4 at 10th level, 3d4 at 15th level, and 4d4 at 20th level. When grappling with a creature, that creature must make a CON saving throw against you (8 + CON mod + Proficiency bonus). On a failed save, the creature takes 2d6 fire damage and must immediately use its action to try and break the grapple, or half on a successful and retains its action. Should you come into contact with any flammable materials (such as flammable gas, alcohol over 60%, gunpowder, etc) that material is instantly ignited and is up to the DM’s discretion if it would explode.

Heated Weapons

Your attacks with metal melee weapons and unarmed strikes deal an additional 1d4 fire damage.

Master of Metal and Gems

Azers are masterful artisans and create beautiful works from the gems and precious metals found in their volcanic habitats. You gain proficiency in either your choice of Smith’s Tools or Jeweler’s Tools. If you spend at least 4 hours of uninterrupted down-time, you may create an artifact out of any precious metals and gems you may have. This artifact may be sold for a max of 3X the value of the metals and gems put into it.

Living Fire

You do not need to drink or sleep. To gain the benefits of a long rest, you must consume at least 1 flammable object (such as an entire torch or firestarter’s kit) and perform 8 hours of light activity.

Bodily Burden

Your body is odd, heavy, clunky, and on fire making swimming exceptionally difficult. When swimming through any liquid that isn’t lava or magma, your movement speed is halved, and you have disadvantage on any Athletics checks made while submerged. You must have armor specially crafted for you due to the characteristics of your body. The armor must be fire-proofed costing you 1.5X the normal cost of the armor, all other armors either melt while being worn by you or combust into flames.

Lava Walk

You gain a swim speed equal to your walking speed; however, you can only use this in lava or magma. You can also walk on lava and magma without taking damage or impeding movement.
