Homebrew Denge Species Details

Is it possible to escape your upbringing? Or are we all destined to be influenced.

Skilled by Nature

Denge’s are naturally good craftsman and fighters. Denge’s are a rare species hardened by fighting for their own survival, and sharpened by their affinity to art. Each Denge is as unique as a snow flake with their own horn, skin cololring, skin patches, and natural affinities. However all Denge’s share a distinct amount of percision with their hand, weather it be a blade, a paint brush, or a dance. Denge are able to pass down more information than the average humaniod can when reproducing, so generations of skills can appear in every offspring.

With their inheirited abilities, all Denge’s gain a +2 to their dextarity score. Denge’s retain the physical appearence and traits of their non denge parent but inheirit all the skills and unique physical patterns of a denge. All dennge’s have at least one horn, dichromate eyes, and patches of colorful and tough skin. These patches of tough skin boost their unarmored defense by 1, but make it hard to wear heavy armor comfortably. Elvin Denge’s very similarly look like elves besides their unique patterns. All denge’s have both reproductive organs and do not have a predetermined gender binary.

Denge’s coloration encompasses the normal human range and also includes skin in shades of copper, bronze, and almost bluish-white, hair of green or blue, and eyes like pools of liquid gold or silver, with patches of most all colors of skin in patches, and all colors of horns and eyes. They favor elegant clothing in bright colors, and they enjoy simple yet lovely jewelry.

A Hidden Heartbeat

All denge’s can sense small electromagnetic pulses. They most consistently can sense heartbeats at a range of 30 feet. While under water or ranning the sense if pushed out to 40. Being able to sense heartbeats makes all denge’s similar to sharks and platupysus who also can sense heartbeats in the same way. However, even more similarly, all Denge’s have poor eye sight, making their perception poor, but their investigation and insight very high.

Pretty with a Purpose

Denge’s tough patches of skin are unique to each one, and also increase their unarmored defense (+1) and effectiveness of unarmed strikes. Having horns means you can improvise an unarmed strike better or if a patch of tough skin is on the limb you’re striking with it will increase its effectiveness. Twice per long rest, add 1d8 of damage to an unarmed strike attack. You can also preform this action once per short rest. This attack is a recourse and is taxing on your character.

Exploration and Adventure

Although they can be haughty, elves are generally gracious even to those who fall short of their high expectations—which is most non-elves. Still, they can find good in just about anyone.

Dwarves. “Dwarves are dull, clumsy oafs. But what they lack in humor, sophistication, and manners, they make up in valor. And I must admit, their best smiths produce art that approaches elven quality.”

Halflings. “Halflings are people of simple pleasures, and that is not a quality to scorn. They’re good folk, they care for each other and tend their gardens, and they have proven themselves tougher than they seem when the need arises.”

Humans. “All that haste, their ambition and drive to accomplish something before their brief lives pass away—human endeavors seem so futile sometimes. But then you look at what they have accomplished, and you have to appreciate their achievements. If only they could slow down and learn some refinement.”

Denge Traits

Your Denge is as unique as you are, with the skills to become greater than the rest.

Closed Eyes

You have disadvantage on perception rolls because Denge naturally have bad eyesight.

Ability Score Increase

Your Dexterity score increases by 2.

Age

Although elves reach physical maturity at about the same age as humans, the elven understanding of adulthood goes beyond physical growth to encompass worldly experience. An elf typically claims adulthood and an adult name around the age of 100 and can live to be 750 years old.

Heartbeat Hearer

Denge’s have a grant sense of hearing and smell, but often have fairly poor vision. They also have an additional sense that allows them to sense heart beats. This makes them great at insight and investigation, but bad at perception. Normaly, denge’s can sense a heart beat out to 30ft, and in the rain can sense a heart beat out to 40ft. This sense cannot be blocked or hindered by magical blinding or deafening, or other status or enviromental conditions. While knocked out, or paralized the sense becomes inactive.

Size

Elves range from under 5 to over 6 feet tall and have slender builds. Your size is Medium.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 30 feet.

Trance

Elves don’t need to sleep. Instead, they meditate deeply, remaining semiconscious, for 4 hours a day. (The Common word for such meditation is “trance.”) While meditating, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are actually mental exercises that have become reflexive through years of practice. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from 8 hours of sleep.

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Elvish. Elvish is fluid, with subtle intonations and intricate grammar. Elven literature is rich and varied, and their songs and poems are famous among other races. Many bards learn their language so they can add Elvish ballads to their repertoires.
