Homebrew Weevil Folk Species Details

From the ancient bowels of the earth the Weevil Folk arise. Many years ago they only lived in the earth plane, however a great gateway opened allowing their homes tunnels a final destination. Ever since they first arrived a great mission was spread amoung their people to expand their worship of the earth genies.

Alien yet Earthly 

With round insect bodies, heads, and limbs the Weevil Folk crawl out from the deep bowels of the earth to spread the worship of the earth elementals. Known for their stunning charisma and persistence they originate from the infinite swamps of the earth plane where the genies made a religious pact with their race to provide wealth and fortune in return for great worship and work. Born into these beliefs it is extremely difficult for them to break their faith even if forced, however this does not mean they cannot change their divine nature rather that it is a great effort for them. Once their discovery became a more common occurrence in the forgotten realms they became known for their good manners and reputation. Despite their often nomadic nature they make good friends with any race. However this is often a backhanded attempt to convert others to their alien beliefs. Still though, they are committed and sturdy when employed. Often enjoying the company of other social beings separate from religious goals. 

 In terms of successful “missions” they have rarely, if ever converted an intelligent collection of creatures to their beliefs. That is except kobolds which often fall into elemental worship after a great leader of theirs dies or perhaps abandons them. Whether these little reformed “Earth Cults” are peaceful or violent is often a fluctuating factor. Besides these few, there has not yet been a successful earth church established by anymore than a rebound few. 

 Despite the world being rather unwelcoming to their beliefs you will find them as peaceful and merry as ever even in compromising positions.

Polite Nature

The Weevil Folk have been known for their Manners for quite some time. Although this kindness can often be simply for religious mission this is not to say that being polite is rare between many of their kind. They are often hospitable and charismatic getting easier attention becuase of their odd appearance.

Unfamiliar to Time

Due to their recent arrival not many know their true lifespan, and the Weevil Folk have not ever answered the question when asked. They themselves are not aware of the passing of time due to their heritage in the infinite Swamps. The primary belief is that they live up to around 80, simular to humans. Although some say those devout followers of the gods live hundreds of years. These are unfortunately only rumors as of now.

Nomads and Nature

 The Weevil Folk often enjoy spending time with other races in an effort to expand their church. They rarely spend time with eachother, but when they are they are in rural fields or Swamps. Many caves can inhabit a lost few Weevil Folk aswell, however these are often aggresive and violent, as the caves are not welcoming to the Weevil Folk.

Genies, Genasi, and Golems

As stated previously all Weevil Folk are born worshipping the earth elementals, they are often seen in chains of command. The lowest form of elementals are any Golem or Construct of earth, they are often servants of the higher beings in Weevil Folk lore.

 The highest are the Genies, in ancient history the genies were the first to enslave the Weevils in a godly pact wherein they served them in return for a luscious environment which pursues to this day. Becuase of this worship the Genasi Race is seen in a pope like position to the Weevil Folk, as if godly princes to be a part of the bloodline of the genies.

Smooth Talkers

The Weevil Folk almost always get alone with those they speak to, they never say goodbye without knowing the person enjoys their company. So their opinions on races are often very positive.

Elves. “Hard to pursued but easy to Crack with some time! Just a little stern that is all! Lovely folk!

Halflings. “Always ready for a good party, I can tell you that! Lovely people!"

Humans. “Lovely folk! Always open for conversation!"

 

 The names of Weevil Folk are often dependant on where they emerge from the earth plane. This is so they sound more welcoming to the race they spend time around. If they are born around orcs, they will have an orcish name, if they are born around elves they will have an Elvish name. This attached to a frequent backhanded kindness utilized to convert others to elemental worship.

Darkvision

Accustomed to life underground, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Age

Weevil Folk mature at the same rate as humans, but they’re considered young until they reach the age of 18. On average, they live about 80 years.

Harsh Homeland

  In their home; the great Swamp, they were best described as ancient pests. Not easily defeated or shaken, they tend to remain stoutly at the dismay of those they tale resident with.

 When underground or burrowed in earth Weevil-Folk have advantage on consistution saves, and resistance against all elemental damages. 

Languages

You can speak, read, and write Common and Terran. Weevils dialect of Terran is full of little chittering and almost rubbery honking sounds, and those characteristics spill over into whatever other language an Weevil Folk might speak.

 Additionally, traditionally holy texts of earth elemental religion is written in Primordial. So despite this language being unfit for them to speak they can read and understand written/spoken primordial.

Size

Weevil Folk stand between 3 and 4 feet tall and average about 90 pounds. Your size is small.

Speed

Your base walking speed is 25 feet. Your speed is not reduced by wearing heavy armor.
