Homebrew Chlorofae Species Details
Chlorofae are tall, intrinsically beautiful, and fiercely protective. The race was brought forth into the world by elves over a millennia by accidental experimentation. Their skin and eyes are different shades of blue and green, with the tops of their heads adorned with yellow scales. These scales are where much of photosynthesis takes place. Despite their origins from dandelion-like plants, they are protected with tough, bamboo-like skin while still maintaining the flexibility of the lithest animals. All of their skin has the ability to produce food from the sun, but they still eat nutrient-rich foods to intake nutrients. As they depend on their skin and solar exposure, clothing is used minimally in their society. It is absolutely taboo to wear anything on the head in Chlorofae culture, and in casual settings and ritual, very little clothing is worn at all. Not only does sunlight nourish and heal them, but it is also a source of sexual energy during strong bouts of sunlight during midday and the warmer months.
Chlorofae society is an absolute democracy, as their telepathic communications allow for it. It does not see much division by class, but rather by profession. There is a warrior sect, religious sect, and scholarly sect. Despite the ability to communicate feelings and thoughts and a democratic government, the Chlorofae are still very much argumentative. It takes months sometimes for decisions to be reached. Conflict of personal and political nature are a constant in a Chlorofae's life. Much of them are highly migratory like their dandelion progenitors, although they tend to put down roots later in life, and half of Chlorofae around the continent of Vikor can be on pilgrimage of some sort in certain parts of the year.
They are highly religious as a society, mostly reverent to the god Silvanus, god of nature. Another core belief of theirs is that Silvanus' divine energy is available throughout the Earth in the form of life and sunlight, becoming accessible through their specialized anatomy and use of magic.
They prefer grassland environments and despise the cold. Elves and other nature kin are their closest allies, although it was not always this way, and they hold humans and dwarves in disdain as they do not show respect for the land. Their chief traits of mild telepathy and photosynthesis give them an edge on and off the battlefield, and Chlorofae can be quite warlike. However, their psychic ability is of little consequence with exception of those with decades of training and/or genetic affinity. Decades of training is a majority of their life span as well, as the oldest Chlorofae ever only lived to 72 years.
