Homebrew Custom Race Species Details
Ghost in the Shell
Your soul is tethered to the armor you occupy. You are no longer considered humanoid but are now considered a construct.
You may remove pieces of the armor that are not a part of the brestplate. The small rune on the back of the brestplate binds your soul to the armor. If destroyed you are also destroyed.
Although you are no longer a humanoid, your soul still is. Resting and healing magic act on your soul and all provide the same benefits to you that they do to other humanoids.
Because the binding is of a magical nature, any anti-magic areas will render you unconscious.
Custom Race Traits
Your character has the following traits.Construct
Your body is a suit of armor made of many durable components. Potions do not effect you but you may be healed by magical means. You are immune to poison damage, being poisoned, and diseases. You do not need to eat or breathe, and any food you do attempt to eat falls through the space where your head would be and into the bottom of your armor. Rather than sleeping, you enter an inactive state for 4 hours each day. You do not dream in this state; you are fully aware of your surroundings and notice approaching enemies and other events as normal. Pieces of your armor cannot be removed unless you willingly allow it.
The rune in the rear of the breast plate is what ties your soul to the armor. If it is destroyed so are you. It may be destroyed by many means but will not wipe off and is not effected by water. It may be removed with deliberate scratches from a tool or melted away with acid.
You can remain motionless indefinitely. You resemble a regular suit of armor when in this state.
Because of your special nature of a soul bound to armor, spells like revivify and reincarnation do not work on you. If you are killed the magic binding your soul is dispelled and your soul is sent to the afterlife.
Antimagic Susceptibility
You are incapacitated while in the area of an antimagic field. If targeted by dispel magic, you must succeed on a Constitution saving throw against the caster's spell save DC or fall unconscious for 1 minute.
Magical Sight
You use magic to perceive your surroundings without relying on sight within a specific radius. You have a blindsight range of 60 feet, but are blind beyond this radius. Spells like darkness and fog cloud do not effect you.
Covering where the eyes would be in the armor has no effect.
Magic Item Usage
Magic items that must be attuned to must be affixed to the armor while you occupy it by an appropriate artisan/craftsman. Magic items cannot be affixed to an unoccupied set of armor or they will not work. Magic items can also be removed from the armor by an appropriate artisan/craftsman. When transferring armors, all items still affixed to the exiting armor are destroyed with the armor.
Magic weapons and spell scrolls function as normal.
Soul Echos
You have echo's of who you once were. Choose 1 Feat at level 1.
Ability Score
Your Constitution score increases by 2. You have disadvantage on slight of hand and stealth checks.
Alignment
You maintain the morality of your former self.
Size
Your size is Medium. Your soul must only occupy armor intended for medium size humanoids:
Weight in pounds = Armor Weight
Speed
Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Soul Tranfer
You can transfer your consciousness into another suit of armor over the course of a short or long rest. During that time you or another creature performs an hour-long ritual. Over the course of that hour, you must remain within 5 feet of the armor, or the ritual fails. The armor you leave behind is destroyed, even if magical. If the armor is magical you may not transfer enchantments you had on your previous armor.
- You must be uninterrupted for the ritual to be complete. If the ritual is stopped before complete you have a 20% chance of failure and your soul will loose its binding, effectively killing you.
- This ritual can only be completed once per day.
Idol Hands
Time is meaningless to you. You have had years to practice your crafts. You gain one skill proficiency and one tool proficiency of your choice. The tool you choose may not be an instrument requiring breath to play.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice.
